Right now I have a Mesa 2x12 cab. In good shape and what not. Thinking about getting a 4x12. Should I trade up to a Orange 4x12 or stick with a Mesa 4x12, or even stay with the 2x12 that I have.

BTW I have a Dual Rectifier 100 watt Head

What do you guys think?

Let me know and thanks!

Don't even take the chance of ordering a new cab from Dave Mills, I ordered a 4X12 afterburner with EV's on Feb 26th 2011, and I'm still waiting, cost me $1,679 and all I have to show for it are endless emails and no returned phone calls. I finally contacted the BBB in Mobile Alabama and opened a case against him, there are 12-15 people in the same situation as me, told the BBB my cab is 60% complete, he has until April 2nd to produce a cab or I will be seeing someone in small claims court.

Go for a Mesa oversized, my next cab is going to be a straight one with C90's.

Well my setup now is a Dual Rec on an Orange 4x12 but I actually want to trade it for a Mesa cab! I mean Orange cabs are very good sounding and looking cabs but what I don't like about them is that they sound very "dry" and affect a bit too much the sound of my amp. I understand the guys using Orange cab for detuned-hardcore stuffs as they handle a lot of bass and sound super tight.

Hope this helps.

Tom.

Wow didn't even know about this... I bought mine a while back from a dealer who had a few in stock (I think they were moving a way from the mills products so it was severely discounted). Honestly its still the best cab I've ever played through but their is no excuse for not honoring a contract. Hope everything turns out ok for you.

What about Avatar Cabs? They seem pretty cool and looks nice. Has anyone played threw one of those or have heard one live?

Yeah kinda. We play Alt Hard Rock/Metal. The guy is ok with a trade. I could always trade and then trade later back to a mesa. Unless you guys think its a bad idea then i'll not do it.

If you want a idea of what we sound like you can check us out here at http://www.reverbnation.com/edgefromfalling Check out Here Lies The Idol & Image, those are our 2 new songs. The rest are kinda crappy and before my time. New stuff is way better.

Just trying to find out if the orange cab would fit our sound.

I have both an Orange 4x12 and a Recto 4x12.

The Orange is significantly brighter with a much stronger upper midrange spike. It's nice when paired with more old school, lower gain amps but I find it makes high gain amps sound extremely harsh.

The Recto cab produces less top end and the midrange sits lower in frequency. The overall sound is smoother and chunkier.

The Recto cab is a bit slower, but this gives it more depth. The Orange is faster and punchier, but it sounds flat and one dimensional.

If you like the way your Recto currently sounds you won't be able to get that sound out of an Orange cab.

Personally, I hate the way my Orange cab sounds with my Recto.

That is a shame indeed, because I love my Mills cab as well. I ordered it in late 2010 I believe.

+1 on this. That's exactly why I want a Boogie cab with my Dual Rec. Orange cabs are great but not with the Rectos. I wouldn't say that I hate the way my recto sounds trough the Orange cab but It could be better, with warmer highs.
