Anyone here used one of these vertical 2 x 12" cabs. It's loaded with Celestion MC-90 Black Shadow speakers made for Mesa/Boogie and apears to be half open / half theile.

Arer they good? What are they worth?[/img]

I used to have one in the 80's and 90's. I sold it like a dope. I wish I had it back. It was a great cab. The top half was open and the bottom half was closed. Nice

Yes I currently have one of those, the best cabinet I have ever played thru. Price varies WIDELY on these. I picked mine up for $300 with a C90 in the top and an EVM-12L in the bottom.

I also have one of these which is the same cabinet but is a road-ready version and has a removeable front as well as a removeable back for the top section..

i'm still bummed i decided not to bid on those.
i could have f'ing picked them up and everything.
ugh!

anyway, if you EVER want to sell it, pm me cause i'll take it.

i have the 4x12 version. c90's on top and ev's bottom.
i had it was all ev's for a while, but it was way too heavy.
something like 160 lbs!

They are cool cabinets...but nothing like the 4x12's. I gave my 2x12 away to a friend in need. It was mint to boot w/ 2 MC-90's.

Well, I traded my old cab for it and it sounds great, despite the non original bottom speaker. The C-90 in the top is all good. Has a Celestion g12k-100 in the bottom which I intend to relpace with an EV when I can find one.

Looks great with my Caliber .50+ head...

Just as big a dope had mine also during the 80/90's but 4x12, Black Shadows on the top and EV’s on the bottom.

I also had the road ready 4x12. awesome cab!!! but stupidly sold it to some dick in canada, who wouldn't pay his own tariff on it.

I just picked one up from the Baltimore CL for $300. 2x12 vertical with c90s, 9/10 condition. I'm dying to take it home and try my amps through it.

As it is a halfback, has anybody made another back panel to fully close it? And have you tried lying it horizontally? If so, would it be comparable to the 2x12 horizontal recto cab?

Yeah, it's an open top, 'close to theile' bottom. I just got a EVM12L to replace the bottom speaker. I'm going to rework the ports a bit to make the bottom half closer to a true theile spec.

How do these sound compared to a regular sealed 2x12 cabinet? Are they tuned for lower frequency response?

They are brighter sounding. I tried it with MC-90's, EVM 12L's, MS12 and Vintage 30's. I thought the Vintage 30's sounded the best, then the MC90's a close second. Sealing up the top will add some thump.
