Keep the gain low and the tone clear. You don't need Page tone, you really need Page attitude. His tone was just Marshall turned up, with volume knob set to edge of breakup.

Jimmy used a lot of different tones ?

I would think the clean channel would be closest.... with the gain turned up it is the most similar to a vintage Marshall sound. He also used a pretty scooped midrange lead sound often. The rhythm sounds were in general more balanced. The voicing of the DR has more low midrange ... the Marshall more upper midrange.

Hmmmm I must be alone in thinking Page had, probably, the worst tone in recorded guitar history. (I have a deep rooted hatred for Led Zeplin lol)

Page used 1x12 combos in the studio. Most think they were Supro Thunderbolts. The Marshalls were just for live playing.

But the previous posters have it right. Clean but slightly overdriven, with definition. I also agree with R_ADKINS80 to a point. Usually his tone was hideous. That's what happens when you let a narcissistic guitar player decide how things should be tracked rather than letting the Engineer do it.

Which Page "tone?" Zep I or Physical Graffiti or...? Celebration Day or Heartbreaker or Kashmir, or...?

Set tone controls on an amp so that the amp sounds like pure @$$....break 3 fingers on your fretting hand and let it rip....instant Page tone/technique!

Unfortunately for you, Pagey and Zep have had a bigger impact on rock music than you or I ever will so...what's your point after two posts of slagging? We get it already.

I played one in guitar center and when set to channel 2(orange) on vintage I got decent zeppelin tone.

He was great about changing up his tone. I think his best tone was on 'Physical Graffitti' and Led Zep IV, especially 'Houses of the Holy', 'Black Dog' and 'Rock and Roll.' The first two sound Telecaster/Marshall to me and the last sounds Les Paul/Marshall. Don't know what he used on each track but I always liked his tone.

I use CH3 on my roadster (I believe the equivalent of CH2 on a recto) set to vintage to do all of the Zepplin tones for our shows. It's not dead on but convincing enough. I play a strat so I'll never get to perfect tone anyway unless we're playing 10 years gone.

:D Physical Graffiti & Coda are made up of track that were extra tracks from the earlier albums. The tracks on Physical Graffiti are from LZII thru Houses of the Holy. The track Houses of the Holy was recorded & wrote when the album Houses of the Holy was made.
