Saw this while browsing the HC Classifieds..... i don't remeber the top portion of the 2x12 half backs having round ports..... i know the bottom has the vents like the thiele but the top i thought the baffle was solid not ported.....

I've been looking at a LOT of 2x12 halfback cab's lately and that is the first I have seen like that. Certainly possible that it was something weird that Mesa tried I guess. If someone added them they did a very good job I must say...they are spaced perfectly and the inside of the ports is painted.

Interesting.

Looks like a home brew holesaw hackjob to me. These holes will do nothing with the back half open. If they were to close off the rear, they really should have a tube installed in each hole, cut to a certain length, to tune the port.

unless the guy who modified the cab had a panel for the back and knew a thing or two about ported designs, i'd say it wouldnt be worth the $360 he's asking..... you can get away with the port design without the tubes because i find the tuned tubed ports to be very boomy, but those ports would have to be placed at the right spots to get the detuned effect.... although who knows... might be an awesome sounding cab none the less

Yeah asking price is too high for that less than fair condition modified cab. Maybe $250 shipped max.

there is a guy on HC selling that.
i'm pretty sure he stated somewhere that it was stock.
its totally NOT stock.
someone did that after they bought it, god only knows why.

Um yeah, the pictures with the flash make the cabinet out to look like it's in much worse shape than it is. That's why I'm including the blurry photos too. It is much closer to the way the cabinet really looks.

Whoever cut those holes was a friggin idiot. There are huge chunks missing because he didn't cut them from both sides.

The guy could have at least used a sharpie and colored them in a bit.

They certainly appear to be from the factory. It's kind of a mystery, I guess

seriously i hate when people dont know anything about what they have..... i'm not saying you have to know every single spec but how do you not figure out that those ports shouldnt be there.... i cant see that cab sounding good

I think that cab was used in a porno, maybe that's what the 2 glory holes are for! :D

Other than that, it's hack job, I wouldn't touch it.

If the price was right, I would think it would be relatively easy to fix.

You could cut some holes with a hole-saw of the right size, then glue them into place. I don't think it would have a drastic effect on the tone if you used 3/4" birch ply similar to the original stuff.

Granted, it would be ugly, but if you got the cab cheap enough, who cares.
