ive always been a vintage boogie guy with zero issues. i have a V combo on the way and am more than nervous.. in the last 2 months i have seen 2 expresses crap out (one was unopened and was doa) my bassist's carbine totally **** the bed the first night (which i more than talked him into getting.. it still is an issue now and then) and my other close friends lonestar is in the shop twice in 2 weeks (he plays once a week, and doesn't even move it) Cmon. Today i'm off to the shop with my rocket 440 that decided to go into full output hum halfway through set 1 last night, yanked cable and was still BZZZZZZZZ. (third repair on that guy in about 6 mos) i gig 4 nights a week, and more than respectful with my gear. Especially with the rush to get the V out.. its a total buzz kill, and now im pretty nervous. i dont like gigging with my old 'nice' ones, but at this point at least i know those ones WORK. ugh.

You're not the only one! :x
My Stiletto had a painful intermittent problem that took over a year to get fixed!
Since then it's been great, but I have heard stories like this a few times before.

There is a recent post here about Express reliability issues. I wonder if, due to the economy, parts quality or control thereof has dropped. Or maybe, to keep up with demand, Mesa has a large number of new hire 'rookies' building amps.

I hope your MkV is a-ok from day one!
Good luck :)

Off topic: what's the IIC Mellencamp export in your signature?

it was one of John's from the 80s, i have the flight case for it with his address on it too, it was part of his rig for abroad i was told. kinda neat to have. Im 3rd owner, last owner got it from him, but kept blowing fuses in it, and sold it to me. There was the wrong fuse in it when i got it, since then been fine. ;)

Tube amp reliability is an issue with any company. Sure, I'd expect boogies to more reliable than others, but there's going to be issues for sure. Of course, those issues get posted on forums such as this one and we may be lead to believe that boogies are somehow not reliable. IMO, it's like the swine flu. A few hundred cases in a city that has 20 million people and the media treats it as an epidemic. Thousands of boogies out there and a few have problems or need maintenance. Of course, maybe you are cursed since you've personally had issues with a few of them.

I still think they are well-built, reliable amps. I had some issues with my Subway Rocket. Turns out it needed some regular maintenance (pot cleaning). Otherwise nothing wrong with the amp even though I thought it was a more serious issue.
