I am a working player who has always used marshalls...I got this gig with a show band, and did'nt feel like lugging around a "half-stack" so I bought a maverick 112(used). the amp works fine but the operator is having fits...any minor tweeking creates a totally differant sound, on stage i am scared (now) shitless if I need to make an adjustment. please help me !

Hopefully you have the manual, if not here it is:
http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Maverick.pdf

Read it, Read it, and then Read it again especially the first four pages; most everything you need to know is right there in the first four.

If you understand the tone stack (Treble, Mid, and Bass) you'll be fine. The are also some sample settings near the end of the manual, I've always found those useful to ground you when you get nevous.

The tone stack is not "dime it and play it" like the Marshall, but you will learn to love the tones that are in there.

I personally love that amp, and I don't even have one. The Maverick is also well regarded even in boteek circles.

I just bought a used one a few weeks ago and have found the following to be true of the amp.

1. Defined bass - turn the bass control to about 1 or 2 o'clock otherwise the bass will appear indistinct.

2. Clean channel keep the mids at 10 o'clock or lower for good clean tone.

3. I never use the fat setting and always keep it on bright.

4. The controls are interactive but they are not that bad. Spend time with it at home and you will soon find all the correct settings.

Lastly, as a personal preference retube the amp using tubes other than the stock Mesa rebrand of the sovtek 12ax7 wa's. These tubes have no harmonic content, poorly defined bass, and a cardboard sounding midrange. I use a Sovtek LPS in V1, a JJECC83 a JJECC830 in V2 and V3, a NOS Tesla in V4, a Shugnang in V5, and V6 a EH 12ax7. You make like other things but the LPS generally gives alot of richness and harmonics to the signal, the EH tightens up the bass and adds some treble bite and the JJ's add gain. They are all good choices and will improve an already great amp.
