Howdy, I'm new to the forum on the hunt for my first Boogie in a long time (anyone have a Mark III head in Cream tolex for me?); but my main amp at the moment is a 2558 2x12 Jubilee. I've never been really 'thrilled' with the overdrive sound of channel two, it sounds like a Heavy Metal pedal and not TUBE distortion. Any advice on how to dial Channel 2 in better? Tube swap or do I have to do some surgery on the inside swapping resistors to try and calm it down a bit and make it more 'authentic?' If a tube swap, what position on the chassis?

The amp does sound better once opened up, including Ch 2 but it's still a little fakey IMHO. Thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that amp uses diode clipping. You could probably have it modded/ removed.

Diode Clipping; i.e. a diode or resistor like thingie in the circuit to give you a more 'gain' like sound? Yeah, that's kind of what I'd feared that this amp isn't really a proper 'two channel amp' but more of a one channel setup with a second channel simply taking the signal of the first and running it threw a circuit to modify it's sound.

Maybe I should go poke around on some Marshall specific forums and see if there's any info out there about this as well; hummm...

Thanks for the response!

They need to be loud. If you are at home that isnt the amp for you.
