Mark VII going back to Mesa - sad

I figured I keep you guys posted how this goes. I just bought this last week new. Noticed a hum on all modes except IIC and MKIV modes. I figured no biggie bad preamp tube. Once I checked all the preamp tubes and still had the hum - I started to get a little worried - checked further new power tubes - same issue. Contacted Mesa they got back in less then 24 hours - asked me for a video - which I sent. Once they got the video they said the amp would need service. I told them I don't trust any of the local authorized tech and would like to send it back to Mesa. They told me fine but it will take a long time to get it back. I'll keep you posted - sad even with the hum the amp is killer.

I would think so- was a demo unit so don't think I can get another one from vendor - waiting on vendor to respond-

Yes, repair turnaround is slower these days I hear. I’ve one there now but haven’t yet heard anything from them. I assume it’ll be a bit before it sees a bench.

I’m thinking I might do the return thing, too, in your spot… it’s not the way I’d prefer to start a relationship with a new amp. Couldn’t do that with mine, as the warranty was out… in the 1970s! Lol

I don't have that hum on mine on channel 1 and 2 I checked it this morning.

Nothing in the loop and no guitar plugger in. The vendor I bought it from will take it back - full refund but, they don’t have a replacement- so I’m sending it back to Mesa for repair- waiting to hear back from mollie at Mesa for RA#. If I didn’t love the amp so much I’d just get my money back.

A week ago, maybe a few days over. I’m not anticipating the initial diagnosis for a bit, with what I’ve heard here. I’m fine with that, as this is not a main gigging amp, so if it is a long repair turnaround I’m not as affected as many here might be. Still, I’d like to get it back sooner rather than later!

Edit: Checked tracking, it’s been there 10 days.

Did they give you an estimate on timing? With mine they initially said 6-8 weeks, it ended up being ~11. But there was the Dec holidays so not sure how much that played into it.

No, not really. I emailed with Brett at M/B about the RA, but being as I wasn’t against a time wall, didn’t inquire on an anticipated turn around window. After reading your experience, and that of others, I’m expecting I’ll hear from them on the repairs needed in 3-4 weeks, and have another 3-4 before repairs happen, at best. My amp is a Super 60 (later called Mark I), so it’s less involved than a Mk 4/5 or Road King, but my thoughts are it is as much when it gets in front of a repairman as it is the job itself. Thankfully, I’ve got time.

FWIW... after my recent experience... I speculate it will sit in the queue until it is ready to be worked on, after the 1st look they will contact you with an estimate. Unless the work is like a big mod it gets done pretty quickly. Timing really depends on how deep the queue is and that does vary.
