I've been using 2 Thiele cabs, one with an EVM12L Classic and the other with a Celestion Redback. When I run both together, the blend is absolutely perfect for me. I also have a Mesa Vertical 2x12 with a Redback and a WGS 12L. The WGS is a little brighter than the EVM, but to my ears, the rest is pretty spot on as a "clone" of an EVM. I use these cabs for every amp I own and even with my Kemper. They never fail to impress me.

Kinda down the speaker rabbit hole at the moment. The Redback has come up a few times and now more then intrigued. Been running a v30 with my EVM and now wondering how different a Redback would be paired with it.

I find V30s to be too brittle and harsh for my tastes. The Redback is much smoother on the top end and full on the bottom end. I've tried only a few Celestion speakers, and, to me, the Redback is fairly neutral overall. Not as neutral as an EVM, but a LOT more neutral than a V30. If you use an acoustic sim, the combination of the EVM and Redback deliver a more realistic tone.

Why not just leave the c90 in the amp. I personally would be looking at an external cab to go with it. A friend recently got one of the Theile cabs that has the C90 in it, and thus far he has been floored with its performance compared to a C90 in just an open back cabinet (similar to the combo). I mention the Theile cab as it has much the same dimensions as the combo, just a bit deeper and ported to the front.

I still like the EVM12L Classic (current production made in Mexico) with the Mark VII. That I was overly impressed with but in a wide body 112 open back cab about the same size as the Mark V90 combo. Just a bit on the shallow side so stacking V90 combo on top of the extension cab on carpet is not very stable. On a wood floor it is. carpet with padding is not all that suitable.

You could always hunt down an OG Thiele cabinet to put under it, with the EV speaker inside. Or you could get a new Thiele and swap the speaker.

I did exactly that: two new Thieles and I replaced the speakers in each cab. These are now what I regularly use at gigs, sometimes only 1 cab. When the stereo effects kick in, my tone swims around the stage. Awesome feeling and sound.

Bandit2013, I was just going to hit you up about this very topic. I just ordered a couple of cabs and in the 1/2 back 19" I am putting in a EVM-12L and contemplating a Redback for the mini-recto slant. The EV's love open back cabs. I freaked out the factory when ordering the mini-recto with the C90. (They don't know I'm selling it when I swap it out!) LOLI see we are all on the same page here... go figure. With a 2x12 vertical retro slant populated with V30's the VII I believe will have a sonic palette to chose from.

curious how this project will turn out for you. Sure, EVM12L is great in an open back cab. So is the Redback BTW. What I have found with the 412 cab, the EVM12L is a total beast in a sealed closed back cab too. That oversized Recto slant front cab did require some beefing up inside with the baffles but after that it has far more punch than the Standard version with the V30. Just running two speakers tends to take off some of the HF response of the amp as it seems the 4 ohm load sounds a bit different. However, at 8 ohms you get the full sonic sound from the OT without penalty. Probably why I did not favor the V212 cab when I tried it with the EVM speakers. Either wire as 16 ohms in series or 4 ohms in parallel. If I had filled up two V212 cabs, then I would have chosen 16-ohm series wiring. I saw no point in doing that as I already have an EV loaded 412. Also,I felt the V212 cabinet seemed to be more tuned to the V30 speaker. I tried pairing up some other 16-ohm speakers like the two Celestion Creme ALNICO 90W, or the two Cream backs G12H-75, still favored the 60W-V30 speaker. Did try a combination of them too with the V30 or mix and match. Too bad the Redback I have is 8-ohms. Would have tried that as well.

I stuck a 16 ohm Redback in my 112 Friedman and it really tighten up the cab's overall low end and mids. Didn't much care for the cream back that came installed.

I've decided to install an 8 ohm Redback in the mini-recto and the EVM-12L classic in the 1/2 back. If anyone is in the market for a new UK Celestion G12M-65 and a couple of new Mesa Voiced UK Celestion C90's let me know.

I have a pair of Hardwood Thieles with the original EVM-12L's installed and they are some of my most favored cabs! Pair them with either a IIC+ or III combo with EV's in them and holy mother of God!
