Is there any comparison between these two? I love the versatility of the Five, but LOVE the crunchy gain on the Stiletto.
Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is if there's any way to cop a decent British-style crunch with the Mark 5. (I am NOT asking, "will it sound like a Marshall?" I'm not THAT much of a *********!)

Both EDGE and CRUNCH modes in Channel 2 of Mark V (even with 6L6GC),
they sound like Stiletto to me. Boost them if you need higher gain.

ive gotten my channel 2 "crunch" as a mix between a orange rockerverb 100 and when i feel a lil bit dirtier i boost the gain throw a overdrive in front and i have pretty much my old vht pittbull settings which is freaking awesome lol.

I recently put EL34's in my Mark V and I love them... I played Marshalls and Hi-Watts in my early days and although I love the pure Mesa tone with the 6L6's I find I am able to get better tones for the type of music I play with the 34's. If I were to quit doing the classic rock thing and joined a band that plays heavier music, I would go back to 6L's to get that girth back. I find the 34's put out just the right frequencies to cut without taking over, just the kind of behaviour you would expect from a Marshall or a Hi-Watt. But as was pointed out you can get close enough with just the edge or crunch modes, I just find that if you're looking for that sound 34's take you the rest of the way. I haven't had enough time on a Stiletto to really say how similar the V sounds with 34's but I would say the Mark V with 34's will not let you down.
