Hi all...

My first post and the MarkV is my first Mesa!!!

So far the MarkV has been nothing short of a great amp and there are so many
sounds I can coax out of it. It's great step up from the Marshall, Traynor and Vox
I own or owned.

Anyhow, my ch.1 on the clean and FAT settings seems to be noticeably quieter than
the Tweed setting on the same channel and over all settings in both ch.2 and 3.

I can adjust it out with ch.1's master but it's something I found odd.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue? I'm only halfway through the manual
so if it's in there just give me the old, "RTFM!"

Thanks!!!

welcome! The hike in volume going to tweed is normal and mentioned somewhere in the ya manual. I always play my channel 1 in a higher power setting than what I use in CH2 and Ch3 to be able to have the volume without distorting in FAT mode.

+1

super high headroom clean that i usually run it at:
full power, 90w, fat mode, gain ~10:30, master to taste, etc. might have to bring the master up higher if you're not using the global master volume (fx bypassed). i keep mine around 10-11 for bedroom playing through a 2x12. tone settings will depend on the tubes you're using, the cab you're running through, etc.

presence will also play a part in how loud you need to be cause the highs will be more cutting, depending on the setting. if you're looking for really bright, then you could take presence well past 12, but i might be too beamy depending on your cab and speakers.

sed 6l6's i had it at treb 10-11, mid 10, bass 8:30-9, preset contour 10-11. i'm still tweaking for the el34's, but it seems i actually like to boost the contour more than w/ 6l6's, then push the mids and presence, bring the treb down a bit to compensate for the presence. bass can also go up a little bit. hard to compare an american fat clean (fender-ish) with a fat clean that's british. they're not 1:1. that being said i'm only using the mesa el34's right now. i just bought a set cause i replaced the mesa 6l6's with sed's then i realized i shouldn'tve sold them cause mesa might ask me why i wasn't using mesa's if i have any service issues.

Thanks for the welcome! The higher power setting is a good idea.
Hehe...it's nice just to even have that option. :D

Also, have you guys noticed that the Reverb is dramatically less noticeable in Tweed...It can be loud and spanky in Clean and Fat, but it takes a good drop in Tweed...or is it just me??

It's almost inexistant in tweed. It's a normal behavior. That's one of the reason I don't use it because I shift between FAT and tweed quite a few times during our sets and I can't be bothered to play at the back of the amp on the fly. So I use a reverb in the loop.

Try using the tweed mode and setting the gain around the 9:00 position. Then crank the channel master WAY up. This will give you the dynamics of the DRG Mark IIC+ with the Sylvania tubes in the power section. Do not use the Graphic EQ or the Preset knob on this channel. A good sounding guitar and speaker will negate the use of said equilization in the clean channel.

This was it!
ch1 was set to Graphic EQ which was set up for ch3, (scooped mids V.)
Using the Preset brought those freqs back and made the clean and FAT
more pronounced.

Thanks!
