I ordered a pine headshell on eBay for my mark III. This one http://www.ebay.com/itm/300865288960?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Problem being it doesn't have the holes drilled through the top for the chassis mounting screws, I assumed it would have been drilled. It's been a day and the seller hasn't returned an email. I thought it would been easy to measure but it's really not, one screwup and the headshell is done. Does anyone have a template or measurements for the top of a short headshell?

Well, here is what I measured on Boogie chassis - short versions :

469602screwposition1.jpg

For NON-SUS4 amps - typically MKI, MKIIA, early MKIIB, late MKIV :
2 = 416mm
For SUS-4 amps - typically late MKIIB, MKIII, early MKIV :
2 = 400mm

For all MK models from I to IV :
5 = 135mm

The SUS-4 system is the suspended chassis system. Note that SUS-4 cabs and headshells have slightly higher front chassis window to allow suspension movement.

The dimensions 1,3,4,6 may vary more or less depending on the model / maker of the cab or headshell : it is better to position the chassis correctly and measure them - even if it not easy - so the holes will be drilled at the exact right place.

A+!

Yep the above measurements look correct.
Just divide by 25.4 to get US/ inches

To locate dimension 2 just draw a Center Line on the head and go 200mm to either side of the C/L.
As far as dimension 4 is concerned it'll depend on the width the headshell you bought.
If it's the same width as a Mesa short headshell that distance is either 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" (I'll check later to be sure).

Btw where does the cooling fan go in the headshell you bought?
Just asking as most MkIII's have four power tubes and will need a cooling fan.
