So I am considering getting a Mesa/Boogie Mark IV. I currently have a Studio Preamp which I use for recording into my interface which I would sell If I got the Mark IV.

I was wondering if anyone with a Mark IV could help me out. I don't want to use the recording out because I want to use my own impulses (not the one built into the recording out), so I was wondering if any of the outputs were after the EQ, but before the master volume so I could do it silently.

Thanks in advance!

I use the record out with impulses and it sounds good. I don't know how much or if any speaker emulation is on the record out. It sounds pretty ragged on it's own. I just used it last weekend with Redwires and Guitar hacks impulses and it sounded pretty sweet.

I guess everyone may have a different opinion, but I tried using the "Recording Out" on a track (my intent was to mix the mic'd tracks and the "Recording Out" as a "DI track"), but the tone left a lot to be desired. The cleans weren't bad, but they sounded generic to my ears. The high gain lead channel sounded fizzy and brittle. I tried turning the master down, lead drive, treble, all with no decent results.

I would advise you to try it and see what you think. YMMV. As for me, I may try using the impulses from the FX Loop next...

I think you misread my post. I said it sounded pretty ragged using the record out on it's own. Using the said impulses yielded much better results. try using the Lecab IR loader with a mix of close mics and ambient room mics.

Ok, maybe I misread. I can't stand the "Recording Out" signal either, so I was agreeing with you. I must have missed the part about using impulses. There was a guy with a Mark III (Green Stripe, IIRC), that got some phenominal results using impulses. They're much better than the "Recording Out" option. Again IIRC, he would pan two tracks (hard left, hard right) and mix in reverb to taste to give it a more "realistic" sound.

In my original post, I was more-or-less just trying to say that the "Recording Out" sounds pretty bad compared to impulses. So, in that sense, I agree.
