I noticed that the presence has a lot of influence on my Mark 4.
I used to ran it high(pushed), around 8. But I found it to be very fuzzy that high, so I lowered it to about 2,5, but that was too dark and not punchy enough.

Now after 2 days afternoons of tweaking I put it up to 5 and lowered my gain and drive, both to 7(gain pulled).

I hit the strings hard so punch isn't a problem, but I was frustrated yesterday about all the tweaking. I am looking for a sound like pennywise around Full Circle/Live at the Key Club/Land of the Free.

Something like this(bad youtube quality, I'm sorry):

My settings now are:

Harmonics
Pentode
Simul Class
Full Power

gain 8 pull
treble 8
bass 2
mid 4
drive 7
presence 5
master 2
output 2

EQ like this with the 60 somewhat lower and 6600 even with the 2200:

I use an Ibanez RGt3020 with EMG 85 and a Marshall 1960AV cab.

Anyone else has these strugles with their presence knob or any useful thoughts they wanna share?

When I had celestions my presence was at 6 or 7 I think, but with EVs I turn it way down. 1.5-2. What's in your marshall cab?

I don't know how you guys cut through in a band settingm with presence below like 6. It does get more gritty and less smooth past 7, but also adds a lot of chunk for palm mutes, so its a trade off.

I have V30's in my Marshall cabinet.
And the last postermentioned what I'm mising now, but if I turn it up to 7, it feels fuzzy. And I HATE fuzzyness.
