Hello, I recently pruchased a Mark IV widebody combo from someone locally and it was loaded Groovetube 6l6s (quad) and I was wondering if I could pull two and put a couple of JJ E34Ls from eurotubes in the outer sockets with the groove tubes or if it would be better(safer) to get some JJ 6l6s to go with them. I guess what I am asking is does tube brand matter or will any 6l6 e34l combination work (GT with JJ etc...) Thanks.

Tube brand means nothing from a safety standpoint, but different brands may sound different. The main concern from a safety standpoint is current draw.If you cant check and adjust the bias stick with tubes rated for that amp,Mesa or GT's.If you want to use JJ's make sure they match them for your amp.

alright cool man, I've been wanting to try something with different tubes mixed together, so that's good to know it won't be that expensive. Thanks a lot! 8)

If you want to get really anal about it you can buy a Bias Probe (such as the Allessandro or the Weber) and you can check the bias regardless of tube type or rating. To me it's money well spent because you don't install your tubes blindly. One of the best advantages is you can check the Bias safely without paying a tech to tell you the same info.
