I'm thinking about throwing a bid on it, but not sure if it's something I want. $2100 seems like a deal since other guys are getting $3k +

http://cgi.ebay.com/MESA-BOOGIE-MARK-IIC-FULLY-LOADED_W0QQitemZ190180961910QQihZ009QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If anyone here bids on it, let me know and I won't compete against you.

Peace!

I think better pics need to be posted to get me real interested.....those are really dark

It's gotta be a C -> C+ upgrade.

Also, 2100 is going to turn into 3000+ very quickly.

Yah, I contacted the guy and confronted him about it. He doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with calling it a C+ even though he admits that it is a converted C. I made an analogy about a small block Corvette being fitted with a 427 being advertised only as a 427 Corvette and letting him know that anyone who was savvy about these cars would never pay the anywhere near the price of an original one. Oh well...

This amp will be a good indicator of how conversions compare to the real thing.

We just had a real IIC+ (14066) sell for $3200. This C is identical and apparently has a documented conversion to C+ spec's. We'll see how much less it brings.

he added a ps explaining it, and advising ppl to call mike b to confirm if they dont trust him heh

I guess I can see why a C->C+ would bring in less from a collectability standpoint but sonically there's no difference so you're essentially paying for a serial number.

The photo's look like he snuck into someones house and shot them by flashlight ......

The collecability standpoint you mention is why the C+ is $3000+ and not still $1200. People really aren't paying for the sound, just like they aren't with plexi Marshalls, blackface Fenders etc. Collectors drive the market.

I would personally not pay anywhere near C+ prices for a converted C. Just my preference.

I wouldn't pay 3K+ for either of them :p

I put up my C to C+ 60 watt combo with reverb and EQ about 2 months ago,and it only brought 1600.00 and it was a high 12000 seriel number  So, I don't know if it will even bring the 2100.00 min.bid.My C+ mod sounded as good as my actual C+ but the truth is its still a C.

I agree with what you say but to expand on your comments. From strictly a collector's standpoint, and I'm not a collector, it is all about rarity, sometimes even over quality or utility. There were an infinite number of original C+s. Every time someone converts a C into a C+, the rarity decreases and so does the desirability and dollar value. I am on my 2nd C+ and it doesn't bother me either way. The way the prices on them is going up now, I think I am in good shape and I think it is great that anyone with a C has the option of upgrading to a C+. All that being said, I feel that if you have a C that has been modified in any way, that you should disclose it in your ad.

Agreed, he should have disclosed that fact in the original listing for the collector standpoint.

I'm clearly a Mesa noobie  . Can you guys explain what the difference is between a C and a C+? What does the upgrade do? I love reading about this stuff, and just want to know what you guys are talking about 8)

For the newbie, suggested reading.

This from the Boogie Files.

A staff person at Mesa/Boogie has said that they can upgrade any Mark IIC to a IIC+ specs for about $200, but they have also stated that a mod to a "+" can change an amps' tone - I don't know how different the sound is between a Mark IIC and a Mark IIC+. Another staff person has stated that the Mark IIC lead sound is "harsh" while the IIC+ is "smooth." Mike Bendinelli, head tech at Mesa/Boogie, feels that the IIC+ is a huge improvement over the IIC, which he calls a "C minus". And Dave Goodman at Mesa stated that after getting an amp changed to IIC+ status, "You will never need another amp again." Pretty cool... but if you like the sound of your IIC, be careful about upgrading.

just wondering, don't you guys have anything better to do?...from the guy selling the MARK IIC CONVERTED TO MARKIIC+ ON EBAY...YES I AM ON THE BOARD TO...AND YES IT IS STILL A IIC+ EVEN AFTER SN#'S.. DARK PICS ...CORVETTES...AND EVEN AFTER PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN TALK ABOUT AMPS THAT THEY SHOULD PROBABLY BE PRACTICING ON.

Do you think it's surprising that people at the "Boogie Board" would be discussing, er.... Boogies?

As for the auction, it was misleading. If you had originally listed it as a conversion there wouldn't be an issue.

big difference talking about amps [maybe your own] tone.,tubes, maybe using a variac..you know musician stuff vs how the pics were taken? squabbling about sn#'s..stuff that really doesn't matter...gossip

I would want to know whether I was a collector or not. Most people these days look to eBay "Completed Items" and other major sources to try determine the going rate or value of items they are about to purchase. If no one distinguishes between original and modded, given that there is almost always a difference in value, then the buyers will will be mislead.
