mark iic no sound

hey. first post.

I just got myself a mk iic insanely cheap because there is no sound comming from it. I have tryed the amp before and it has worked. But now there is no sound comming from it. I would like to know some simple things i can do to test the amp without having to open its gut.

Jump the effects loop with a short cable first.

Try replacing the preamp tubes one at a time starting with the V1.

Isnt there another way to see if a tube is bad other than changeing it? I dont really have a preamp tube right now.

I know it is lame. But no, my knowledge on tube amps isnt that big.

You need to at least try changing the preamp tubes.

Does the amp even power up?

yes it does power up

Do all the tubes light up ? They should have an orange color to the glow.

yes they all light up, although the power tubes all have big areas of silver on them, is this normal?

If the top of the tube is bright silver, that is normal.

no it is round spots on the middle of them, 2 on each

Normal for a side flashed tube.

Well...a question: do you set each volume and tone controls in the right way? Do you plug your speaker correctly? This may be a stupid question but it isn't....

Well, i have plugged the speaker into the 8 ohm jack, and there is a faint hiss comming from it. I dont know about the knobs, i turned them all to 5 but still nothing happend.

Mmm...try also with the 4 ohm input...try some other guitars, cables or a different cabinet (if you have the opportunity to test this)...

Is it possible to use the slave out to test if the preamp alone is working?
