Yeah, I can understand Jim's point of view - if you're buying the amp as a collector or investor, then originality is king. If you're buying the amp just to have a rockin amp then I don't understand the fuss as much. Although I think that the market that would have bought my upgraded C+ for the tone has shrunk because a lot of people are now just buying the V. Sucks for me with the timing - economy's down and the release of the Mark V.

Lots of good deals on the C+ lately. Almost pulled the trigger on a very clean reverb, eq, 100/60, combo with $2150 BIN (buyer was willing to ship for free with BIN). Got sold for $2252 + ship.
I nearly went for that one too, but someone bid which caused the BIN to go away, so I bid, wound up 2nd. I bid on the one referenced by the OP since it was similar. For whatever reason I was able to get it for less. Maybe it was the lack of reverb, or just good timing.

Anyway... I got the amp today!! I paid same day of the auction and the seller shipped right away, so it showed up at my house this morning. Went home from work, unpacked it, and plugged in. This is my first Mark series amp, so I'm no expert. To get started I used settings I found here: http://homepage.mac.com/mesaboogie/MarkIIC.html. The amp is pretty clean... as expected, it's a combo, 100/60, eq, no reverb non-simul. Came in a road case, and it has the STR-415 power tubes. Everything appears to be working well. Only had 20 minutes of playing, but thus far I can say I really like it; seems to have the signature C+ growl. A bit less gain that I expected, I was able to get the lead channel to sing, but couldn't get any breakup on the other channel... probably just my noob status... much tweaking to come, and perhaps some preamp tube rolling.

I'm gonna take some gut shots and post to the vintage forum and let some of the experts render an opinion on the hardware.

Congrats!!
Remember that the Volume 1 level has a LARGE influence over the gain in the Lead channel, Treble level also. Check the preamp tubes too. I was able to reduce the amount of gain by using lower gain tubes in both V1 and V5.
