Hi,

I'm new to this board, this is such a great resource! Can somebody explain the 3 volume architecture of the Mark I Boogies?
I've owned a 77 112 combo and reissue, they were both great amps but definitely had some differences. Seems I could get more gain from the 77 using input 1 than I was able to get with the RI on same input and gain settings.
I'm going to start looking for another 77 MK1 or similar with the gain boost and bright pull knobs.

Thanks in advance for any info on the 3 gain/volume controls.

Currrent amps:
83 MKIIB Simulclass head/rev/no graphic (my go to amp.)
86 .22 Studio Series combo
Gallien Krueger 112SC (solid state, great for jazz/acoustic)

Check this link here.
It's coming directly from the horse mouth.
Original Mark I are great amps but a little bit inconsistant among them.
Cheers!

Agreed - Mark Is have a rep for being somewhat inconsistent, and are often modded or custom orders.

I love my '77 Mark I too ('77 must be a good vintage!), but while I can get right in the ballpark of those classic 70s Boogie tones (naturally), there are a ton of other tones in there that I've never heard from other Mark Is. Inconsistency isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Inconsistent is not bad when you get a good one. I have a '77 head signed by RCS in Kasis hardwood, wicker grill and export transformer.

Mike Bendinelli told me I got "a good puppy here". So he twicked it to match Santana's sound in the Lotus live album and he advised me to mod the EQ and placed it after the master volume so it will be more effective. Obviously, I followed his sage advice and I cannot be happier.

Many thanks for helping with my question. I also found a good article over the weekend on the Mark I design written by Dave Hunter in a Vintage Guitar mag from 2007.
I'll scan it and post when I have a chance. Sad part is, the issue has a cover story on Gary Moore, strange timing.

Off topic-

I went into my besement this weekend looking for a specific issue from my Vintage Guitar magazine collection and that issue was on top!
