Something you don't see everyday......

Was taking my LSS out to the truck as the band rehearses on Wed nights,
and one of the coats on the coat rack by the door fell off the hook. I put the LSS down to pick up the coat, and WATCHED MY LSS CARTWHEEL DOWN THE &@%&* STAIRS!

After I recovered from my heart jumping into my throat, I ran down to check out the damage.......

1 small mark in the tolex. That's it.

I guess that's why they are pricey. The're built like a brick sh$thouse.

Panick sets in if I bump a doorway with my amp I can't imagine what you felt like!!!

Any sonic difference?

Yep. They're tough. My Blue Angel lives in (or on) a flight case, but still has to rool across some bumpy assed parking lots. I always take it slow and easy but I'm worried far more about the tubes getting the vibrations than I am the amp itself.

And heavy!

I argue that Mesa/Boogie owners are FAR stronger than people who play light little solid state amps. That Blue Angel in it's flight case is a workout!

And a weapon!

If you're in a bind, you can just throw your Mesa/Boogie amp at the enemy and crush em' like a bug.

Where else can you get a tone machine, workout equipment, and a weapon all in one box?

Murph.

Man, Glad it's in one piece and still kickin'. I freak out at the smallest things, Hell I dodge pot holes in the road when my RK is in the back seat... It even get a seat belt!

Murph...LOL! too funny. But your right, Mesa's are a **** Swiss army knife.

So, how would you describe the scratch (and the fall) on Ebay someday? That, Mesas are really stunt doubles for other "pretty" amps? 8) I would love to just roll my LSS down the stairs - it really is heavy!!!

Hello All;

Actually, I DID find a problem last night. The reverb is dead. I removed the spring plate after rehersal, and the springs looked OK, but no verb. Any ideas?

Boogiemon - no, no sonic difference that my tired old ears could hear..... just the same wonderful clean sound I get, and the light grind I use on other material.

heh. careful with the reply to this question, as it might start a whole new trend among messageboard tone chasers.

"dude, last night I threw my 1970 marshall super lead down a flight of stairs! the sustain is WAY better now! you gotta do the stair mod!!"

cue the debate of concrete vs. carpet. vs. metal......

LMAO!

It's funny cuz its true!

I'm gonna start a new cottage industry modifing guitar amplifiers with my scientifically calibrated stairs! A bargain at only $19.99 per mod, customer is responsible for all shipping and handling. May void manifacturers warranty. Limited time offer. :D

Leroy,
Vox AC30 and LSS are really two different amps, and I love 'em both. They both prefer single coils, though AC30 does sizzle with my ES335.

Simply put, LSS is my blues amp whereas AC30 is more of a glass tone amp though it can growl any blues tones. AC30 will give me the cleanest and brightest tone without any brittleness! Hands down the best cleans (my 64 Deluxe Reverb adds lush to its cleans better). AC30 is best at producing the tone in a most articulate way - it delivers every note distinctly if that's what you want. LSS on the other hand blends and breaks tones in such a way that it creates awesome tonal texture.

I'm not the best reviewer, but hopefully you can visualize and hear the notes. 8)

Check the 12AX7 that is used for the reverb V4.

I am glad to hear that your amp made it out relatively unscathed. It reminds me of a story when I was in my early band days...We were playing a show in the basement of a church which had very steep and unforgiving stairs. My drummer was helping a drummer from another band bring his custom made (baltimore drum company) drums down those steps. He had three toms stacked up totem pole style...He tripped a little at the top of the steps and the top tom of the totem pole went bouncing down the steps. It took about 3-4 hard bounces before getting to the bottom. There was a moment of silence, we all rushed down to check the damage. Remarkable, there was only a very small ding on the tom!

Not quite the same situation but I was gigging with my trusty Peavey "Pile" (could not quite achieve the status of a stack). I had an LA 400 (210 watts - 1 12" Black Widow) and on top a Reknown (160 watts -1 12" Scorpion Plus) fired up and the drummer stumbled and knocked the Reknown off the top of the other amp and off the stage completely!! It fell about 7 feet and landed on it's head. It was still on and still working!! We put it back up on the other amp and it never gave me a problem. I'm guessing I would have at least lost a tube had that been a Mesa. I don't use the Peaveys anymore but I kept the speakers, they are both great for guitar.

Okay, here goes.

1984, I remember because of the ticket. The ticket happened later...

Somehow, I'm playing a dumpy little bar in Hackberry Louisiana called the Ponderosa. Yea. The stage was actually sorta hanging over a bayou at the rear of the bar. If you jumped around much the floor would shake.

I had a Peavey Duece 2;12 combo, tube power (4;6L6's) setting on a chair in front of the drummer.

I drink beer.........

I was center stage, the only available place to put my beer was, yep, on the amp.

When the beer fell over backwards, the ice cold beer hit the scalding hot tubes and gave the drummer a light show, and an adrenolin rush he probably remembers to this day. The glass fragments would probably still be in the carpet if not for Hurricane Rita.

I haven't been down there since Rita (although I did go to Lake Charles to help my mother in law when the power came back on), but I doubt the Ponderosa is still there.

Anyhow the amp quit, but it took just a fuse, and 2 tubes, and it was back in action, sounding as bad as it did before the mishap.

Gotta love those old American built Peaveys. You could abuse the hell out of em', and they'd still sound bad.

Murph.

Rita was a MF'er. I hate how it's eclipsed by Katrina. SWLA really got destroyed. I live about 40 min north of Lake Charles. A year later the street lights were still not functioning and it looked terrible.

When I first read your story I thought it was gonna turn out that the amp fell in the bayou HAHA that would have made for some interesting tone for probably a split second or so..
