I need to swap the V4 in my LSS, but the metal casing around the tube won't budge.

Should I keep trying to pull on it or is there another way to change the preamp tubes on the LSS?

Yes, I've seen the YouTube videos, but mine aren't coming out that easy.

Thanks

Hey:

The tube pulls straight down and out...BUT...the tube shield MUST BE ROTATED (TURNED)...and spring pressure will help 'pop' it out.

There is a 'key-way' cut into the chassis...and the shield has a little 'nub' which 'must' align with it when putting the shield in (or taking it out). When taking it out you must turn the shield until the key-way and the nub line up. There is a spring (mentioned above) inside the shield which bears against the tube. When the key-way and nub are aligned the spring will then push the shield out.

Remember the tube pulls straight down and out. When replacing the tube be sure to line the prongs (pins) up correctly. Look at their pattern...you will notice an area where there are none. Find the corresponding place on the tube socket and carefully push the tube in.

When replacing the shield be sure that the tip of the tube is centered in the end of the shield's spring or the spring will apply uneven sideways pressure on the tube and possibly break off the end of the tube. (In my stupidity and impatience... I have broken one). Make sure that the little black 'O-Ring' on the shield is 'snugged' up against the ridge which circles the shield. Carefully align the 'nub' on the shield with the 'key-way' cutout in the chassis and firmly press the shield upwards against the tube and chassis until you can turn the shield into locked position.

I had a heck of time getting the shield off, but I finally managed to.

Putting it back on was much harder. I could get it on with the rubber ring.

I ended up taking the rubber ring off then slid the shield on. I then slid the rubber ring back over the lip.

No smoke when I turned it back on so I guess I'm okay.

Thanks for the help!
