Aside from the holiday the next few days should be fun. I sold my Express 5:50 2X12, but it won't be picked up for about a week. I then bought an LSC head and 2X12 cabinet from JAZZGEAR that arrived at my house this morning. So I have both of them to compare and have fun with for several days. I've played each of them separately and in several locations, but nothing beats having them side-by-side in the actual environment it will be used. There are reasons I made the switch, but certainly not because I didn't like the Express. Report to follow ...

Just spent a few hours with them both going back and forth and there are no losers here. I compared them mostly at 50 watts so it was apples to apples.

The LSC was quieter, had a better reverb, had tighter bass, had more punch in the bass, and was smoother, or should I say had a little less coloration. The Express was much faster to switch to other modes, the contour is very nice, and the range of sounds may be greater than the LSC. Both of these amps bring a smile to your face, and the differences are not huge ... but they are there. For the price difference you should hear a difference and I did. Of coarse you also get more flexability with the LSC, being able to use EL84s, loop controls, etc, etc.

One feature that meant a lot to me was the ability to run each channel at a different wattage. I am convinced you can't get a very good tight and punchy bass with 5 or 10 watts when you are playing clean. For that reason, I left the Express in 50 watts since I play clean most of the time. This made it difficult to play with gain at a low volume level on channel 2 ... and it also had more noise. With the LSC, I play channel 1 clean at 50 watts, and play channel 2 with gain at 10 watts, and it works beautifully.

Overall these are both great amps ... but the LSC is something else.
