from manual: "10 WATTS reconfigures the whole set of 6L6s so that the two nearest the 5U4 run pure Class A, single-ended—no longer push-pull."

"VARIAC POWER limits the incoming AC Voltage to roughly 95 volts (again depending on line conditions) for a “browner” power vibe. This position scoops the midrange and provides a looser more elastic feel on the strings with some shifting (up) of the higher harmonics as well. This can be cool for sounds that rely on output (power amp) clip for their character… pushed clean, Roots, Blues or Classic Rock Rhythm sounds can all benefit from this softer power feel. When used in conjunction with the 10 WATT power setting, the MARK V can deliver the ultimate in saggy, low power performance."

and what about setting triode/pentode in channel 3? that typically makes a wattage difference.

So is it 10 watts in full power or variac power, in pentode or triode?

From the manual:
"A PENTODE / TRIODE mini toggle switch (located just under the CH 3 REVERB Control) allows you to choose the wiring configuration of the middle pair of power tubes in Channel 3 only."

Since the Pentode/Triode switch works on the middle pair, and the 10 watt switch works on the outer pair, I'm guessing the 10 watt mode can be Full or Tweed, but the Pentode/Triode switch has no effect. Null set.
Hope this helps :D

Yes.
A) Pentode/triode switching ONLY works on the inner pair of power tubes.
B) 10 watt mode ONLY works with a different pair (one inner, and one outer).
How do you reconcile the two? It's illogical, captain. :D

That may kill it for me. I am looking for triode/low power/recto tube combo (like I had in my RK1) and close to what I get now with my Rivera. Except the Rivera does not have a recto tube.

The recto tube with low power gets this great feel for swing/jazz/funk stuff that's really hard to get into without it.

I thought it was in Triode at 10 watts?

I would not make it a deal breaker man. I experimented and found Pentode sounds and feel best, even though the original IC+ was wired Triode according to the manual. But the pentode IMO sounds some what better when on. Not sure about the 10 watt thing. Sorry.

I just got a response from Michael @ petaluma: in any channel, for 10 watts it's class A triode.

class A, triode, and recto tracking must be suuuuuuuuuuuuper spongy/saggy feel. So how's any liking that?
