Does anyone else have those days when it just seems like you guitar sounds terrible and you can't get a good sound out of it whatsoever and it seems to play like crap when only a couple days previously everything was sounding great and the neck played like butter?

I'm pretty frustrated today because of it and I'm doing a favor for a friend by playing at a church tomorrow. On top of me being frustrated with the sound, the chord charts for these songs are horrible. Whoever in the church wrote them out doesn't know what they are doing with transposing music into different keys. If it wasn't for my friend needing some help I wouldn't be doing this.

Some days are just so frustrating!

:? Yea - absolutely.

I lived happily with my JMP1, GP-8 & Marshall 808 power amp and my trusty 30yo 1922 quad. (always been a Marshall boy because I could never afford a boogie!!!) I decided to sell it all partly to downsize - and mostly to get that valvey sound that I'd been longing for. I bought a 2ng hand Marshall 6101 30th anniversary combo. Stunning little amp but I discovered that I missed the versatility of the JMP-1 midi pre that I'd had before it. Some days it sounded great and others it was pretty sh!t to be frank. I got pretty upset about it and thought it must have been my guitar ... until I plugged into my mates amp. Guitar was fine ... Next - I brought a Marshall JVM 410H 100 watt head and 1936 dual cab. Beautiful sound and a bunch of voices per channel. Still - there are days where I want a bit more ... Recently (last week) I brought a 2nd hand triaxis. It is dysfunctional however - I'm sorting that with the seller ... when it works though - I'm starting to find some nice sounds. I especially love the clear pushed tones that I can get. It has taken me 20 years to finally get a boogie - I dreamed about it for years but in Australia - it is very expensive (new triaxis = $5k) Funny thing - now that I have it ... I realise that it might just be that the Marshall sound (especially the JVM beast) is part of my DNA (classic Aussie rock). Imagine my surprise .. Still I'm persisting with my new sounds and casually mentioned to the wife that it could be a really good mix of sounds with the JVM and the Triaxis ... hehehe ...

Moral of the (long) story ... I think that the sound is part emotional in a sense - some days you play differently to others and it sounds different. When I'm full of energy and I'm hitting all the songs it sounds great. I can come and practice the following week ... same amp & guitar, same backing tracks, same room etc - and it all sounds sh!t !! Once you find your sound, sooner or later - human nature will make you want to reinvigorate it. Lots of fun!

That used to happen to me more than it does now (I've been playing since 1971!). Usually, it's when I try to please someone else rather than myself!

Some days are just "off" days for me. I can't really explain it other than to say either i'm just not feeling it or something just doesn't sound right and it throws me off. Those days can be extremely frustrating, especially when i'm playing with other people and just can't seem to find that fury and inspiration that i usually play with. I feel like i'm letting the other guys down. When i'm just playing at home it's easy enough to take a break for a day or two and come back to it, but with the band it's just frustrating.

So basically what i'm saying is i've been feeling this way for the past few days. Practice with the two groups i play with this past week felt completely uninspired and i'm feeling a little discouraged because of it.

It's times like this that i usually turn to some other aspect of my hobby. Maybe research a mod or two, or in yesterdays case, tear apart my pedalboard and build it up from scratch only to end up with a result that is 95% similar to what i had before  .
