My Lonestar Classic 2X12 was my first tube amp. Love the cleans but bought a BB Preamp to get a little more versatility and drive out of the gain channel. I'm relatively happy with the tone but with the gain and level at about 10 o'clock on the BB Preamp and totally dimed on the gain and drive on channel 2, the noise (hum) is unbearable. No delay tails at all as they're consumed in the loud hum / noise. I tried swapping out the V1 and V2 preamp tubes with the V5 and V4 but that didn't help. I also tried the 50 / 100 Watt setting on Ch. 2 as well as the Tweed / Full power setting. Without the BB Preamp, it's still pretty noisy but obviously not quite as bad.
I'm guessing I should obtain some new preamp tubes but was curious as to what other's experiences are with the LSC & BB Preamp. Is this likely just tubes or do I perhaps have a larger and more serious issue?
Any thoughts / help appreciated.
