Does anyone here have an effective method for triggering dialogue/other samples while playing live, using some kind of pedal sampler (a pedal unit that might have some wav/mp3 storage facility) and without it costing an arm and a leg?

I don't really want to have an AKAI sampler with a midi controller as I think that's overkill for what is essentially 4-5 vocal samples from our production to be played as intros/outros to a few songs.

The only thing I have in mind is an mp3 or CD player, but there's the problem of it turning itself off at the appropriate moment (I need instant access) and obviously me being a guitarist and having no 3rd hand!!

Anyone solved this predicament before?

Thanks, NK

You could try a Boss RC-20 or the smaller one, the RC-2. I just bought one from Ebay(the RC-2), and waiting for it to comes in. You can save up to 11 phrases for a total of 16 minutes. It also has an auxiliary plug for a mp3 player to get samples from. Check for infos on the Boss website!

yessir-my jamman does it as well...download mp3's...footswitchable..in my acoustic gigs(****..dont miss em!!), I would put it in between my guitar cable and my channel(like a pedal..)...could dial up the patch with a footswitch ..hit the button and Presto!!!"We're on a mission from God"(Belushi)
-saved intro music on it(2001 Space Oddysey//Blues Brothers //CC Rider, etc)
the 15-20 people who came out to listen liked the samples better than the actual gig!

fantastic! yes, i was looking at the Boss, but the Jamman I didn't know about and looks like what I need, and as you say, it might even create samples that are the best thing at my gigs!!! ;)

Thanks very much for your help

great..let me know if you have any questions on how to use by pm
I use movie quotes, song snippets, tv theme songs, etc and it is a blast
- idont even use it as a looper during the gig...KT Tunstall(guitar singer songwriter chick) uses a looper and it is cool how she layers stuff(its not a Jamman, but you could do the same with a JM)
