Doug has the best service and quality product. I notice you say beware of Eurotubes. I don't think there's any quality issues with the JJ's in terms of reliability, but the pre-amp tubes are terrible in a rectifier. They should really broaden the products they offer. I personally like their KT77's, but I guess it's all just a matter of taste.

I second the terribleness of the JJ preamp tubes' tone in a rectifier. They sounded great in my F-30 though. I also second the KT77's. LOVE those tubes in my RoV combo. I'll be ordering a set of Doug's recommended preamp tube kits for it as soon as I can sell the JJ's...

Don't even wait to sell the JJ's, keep them as emergency spares. But only in a very desperate emergency. Or for a night where you feel you want to hurt your audience.

Anybody know what the mA ratings are for all the 1-10 rated GT power tubes, say for EL34's? Is that info available anywhere?

I tested two pairs of #5 GT E34-LS in my Stiletto Ace as well as my Simulclass IIC+ (outer sockets). Both sets tested around 25-27 mA despite the Stiletto being 450v plate/-39v bias (Bold setting) and the Mk II being 480/-46 . I hope this helps to ease your mind a bit. :)

What is it that's so bad about JJ preamp tubes in a Recto? I've only ever had these in mine since I bought it (except some old worn out EH one's that were in it when I bought it but these don't count!) so I'm interested in hearing about what's bad about them as I'm looking to put some new tubes in there very shortly. If there's others that will sound better I'll look int them! Cheers!

The JJ's seem to put out some kind of harsh tone that just can't be dialed out. I tried them again in my recto a few weeks back only to confirm why I pulled them in the first place. Grating on the ears, to put it mildly.

Honestly, I forgot. I just know it's the set that Doug recommended. Very smooth and pleasing to the ear compared to the JJ tubes. I was actually suprised that there was such a difference. Funny thing is, it took me half way through practice to realize what was up with my sound. I put the Doug combo back in, problem solved.
