I am a dual rec owner now mark v owner and let me just say that this thing is an amp! i am loving the clean and lower gain sounds i could never get from my rec and i am super happy.

I have only jammed this thing for an hour or so but i did struggle with channel 3 a bit, i play in a hardcore band and was struggling to find good heavy tone, i think im just looking for a rec tone that the mark simply doesnt have. i know there is something here, i just need a bit more time with it i hope!

can anyone give me some direction? read the manual a few times and i am scooping the mids in the graphic eq, i dont like heaps of gain, just a solid heavy crunch.



and also - im not sure how normal this is but on channel 3 i get a loud squeal when im not playing. doesnt sound like normal feedback, this is ear piercing.

Mess with that pentode / triode switch in the back when dialing in chaqnnel 3.

You could have a bad pre amp tube but that squeal is normal (especially in Mark IV mode) if you push gain/treble/presence too much. Dial back some gain/treble. Less is more with the Mark V.

I couldn't agree more with the previous posters.....especially less is more!

My suggestion is to spend considerable time with each mode of each channel without GEQ engaged.....sliders or preset knobs....to get a flavor of what all is offered with this amp. Be sure to experiment with the 10W and 45W options as well as they really do offer distinctly different sounds / nuances in there own way.

Do not expect to obtain a DR sound out of this amp. In other words.....do not crank the gain, treble and/or presence in channel 3 in search of a DR tone....it does not exist in the V. The squealing that you are experiencing in channel 3 is most probably because you have the gain and/or treble, and/or presence too high. I find my optimum channel 3 high gain sound settings with the gain, treble and/or presence settings in their middle regions.....usually not past 1 o'clock for the gain and treble and often the presence set as low as 10 o'clock in this channel. YMMV

Once you have become familiar with the great sounds the V has to offer in all modes of each channel.....then start working with the GEQ sliders and or preset GEQ knobs. The "classic V" comes in many varieties. The position of the middle slider can make a drastic difference in tone with the others in the "classic V" possition.

Also, when playing in Mk1 mode of channel 2, start by turning the bass tone knob completely counter-cw and middle tone knob from off to 9 o'clock. In order for me to obtain a fantastic tone out of Mk1 mode, I also engage the QEQ sliders, but not in a "V curve". Instead, I set the lowest frequency slider quite low (between the lower and middle line) and form a vertical line slanting to the right for the rest of the sliders. Try that when you get a chance.

Edge mode is just the opposite of Mk1....turn up bass and drastically reduce treble and presence and possibly mids. Clearly I don't set the GEQ sliders set the same in Edge as Mk1 mode...more likely opposite....if you even choose to use GEQ in Edge mode. I typically do not.

The "Edge and Mk1" modes of channel 2 were the most difficult for me to get my arms around, but do offer some excellent tones once I understood how to dial them in nicely!

i knew i wouldnt get the rec tone out of this, but funnily enough the the gain on my recto never went obove 1 oclock anyway. my pickups are super bright so the treble and presence usually hang around the middle if not lower region sometimes with the presence off even.

can get some serious volume out of this thing - even at 10 watts this thing has grunt!
