actually there was no particular G3 requested. The word "tokyo" does not appear in the original question:

"What is John Petrucci's gear on G3?
Thanks
"
I own all three G3's, John's only on G3 in Tokyo, so it kind of goes without saying. 8)

Thanks for the answers!
As i said, i want to buy a mark IV head, because my dc5 sounds too dark (i'm not able to explain you well :( ). I've to rise the volume very much to hear myself while playing (i use te V eq setting and i've just changed the power tubes). So i want some more midgained amplifiers...i think the mark iv is right for me...

Wait, you EQ it using a V, hence cutting the mids and you claim it sounds too dark? Ya think?

Try boosting the mids, then! :D With a V shape you're cutting the mids, since the middle slider is low. :D

The Mark IV is unfortunately out of production, so you can't get one new unless you find a store that has one in stock or buy used. However, the Mark 5 is coming out soon, so I'd wait and see how that one will be.

The TriAxis does most Mark tones well, though, so I'd suggest you check it out.

About the G3:

The G3 rig pics I posted are from 2007 right before/in the middle of the Chaos In Motion tour. The Tokyo G3 you're thinking about is from 2005, during ToT and Suspended Animation, where he exclusively used Road Kings. That G3 rig is the one most known, but the one I posted is the latest one, and I know that because I collected those pics when they were posted on forums from concerts at that time. :)

Want more? Also notice the new John Petrucci Signature models, the new BFR line from Ernie Ball that was released in 2008. Those are the first "final" models he used back then. On the Tokyo G3 from 2005, where he used Road Kings, he played his older basswood JP Signature model.
He has even stated in multiple interviews, that one of the main reasons he went from the Rectos to the Mark IVs now is that the new guitar is made of alder with a maple top plus a mahogany block in the middle of the body and a mahogany neck. He thought the guitar sounded better and more organic through the Mark IV. Also notice the similarity between that rig and the Chaos In Motion rig made right after. Basically everything is exactly the same in the rack with the exception of a Mesa Lonestar added.

By the way, several of the photos I posted earlier were from MusicPlayers.com, from an interview about the 2007 G3 tour.

John confirmed to a guy on a meet-and-greet session that both were stock Mark IVB's.

Huh? There is a MkV coming out? Since when???

You clearly should be spending more time at the forums! Or checking your eyes, cause only a few threads down there's a thread with Mark 5 in the title. It's unclear is Mesa will release the prototype this summer or in January '09, however it is confirmed by several dealers that there is an upcoming Mark 5 release and John Petrucci just played the prototype a few weeks ago. And if you didn't notice, both the Mark I reissue and the Mark IV are now discontinued. :D

They are B´s. To my knowledge JP has only used B´s. Both the FII rig and the SFAM rig had a Mark IVB (for lead tones) in them.

My 2007 Mark IV short head looks exactly the same, it also has the "Boogie" badge.
