Sound?.. Playability.? I'm in a metal band.. Stuck between these two guitars. Help me out. Play out of a mesa road king...orange 412.. i need versatility but of course both of these offer that. the piezo on the ebmm is nice. i mean i hate having a signature guitar. and im sure the PRS is beautiful as well. I need to hear some flaws! How do the necks differ? Woods?

jp6 destroys all other guitars, its pretty simple really. but then again the shape and look of the prs is perfect. i actually went to a guitar store to buy a custom 24. while they were getting it out for me i picked up a regular jp6 out of boredom. it was the best thing ive ever done. that day i walked out with the ebmm and not a prs. i can get into details but this is an issue i can talk about all day. in short, the neck/feel is ernie ball by miles, so is the trem. but they both sound great (through a mkiv). ask more specific questions and i can give you more specific answers

okay, well its better than any guitar ive ever touched and out of the two i would choose the jp6 everytime. out of curiosity, what do you think is better?

The question here is which is better for you??

Have you tried the models out? Do you know how to match tonewoods to your likes and style? Do you know what neck shape your hand feels best in? Do you know the effect of the different scale length on each guitar? Are you a bolt-on or set neck guy?

Look into these types of things through lots of meticulous research. And above all, try to get your hands on them. It's an expensive mistake to make if you get it wrong. Reading can only take you so far until you try one. The hunt is the best part though! have fun!

I wouldnt go for either. If I were forced into one of those 2 I would take the EBMM....I think.

I'd take a Suhr Modern or Anderson Drop Top or a Brian Moore C-90F over the JPM and would take a Les Paul over the PRS

to each his own i guess. while i understand the suhr and anderson thing kinda but the jp felt better to me even though the suhr has seemed a tiny bit more refined and finished. really a les paul though?

Love my custom 24 and I play metal through almost the same rig as you, might get some bareknuckles in it soon though even though the stock pickups are pretty good

I have 2 Custom 24's and a nice CUstom 22.

I also have 3 Les Pauls....I prefer the Gibsons in every way.

I've gotta say I'm pretty surprised by this, what kind of music do u play? I love the les paul tone but I find the playability severely lacking and I just can't stomach the weight sadly.

I have 2 bands, one plays heavier rock and the other is a pop-country cover band.

Les Pauls work for both and are actually very versatile. I'll take a PRS along now and again but my Tom Andersons and Gibsons cover everything.

Both guitars are great, but owning a BFR myself I think the BFR is better for my tastes. It's beautiful, plays awesome, and the piezo is definitely killer. The only guitar I like the looks of better is a PRS and it's actually on my list of guitars to acquire eventually. IMO, the PRS is better at singing leads than rhythm. The BFR is better at rhythm but sounds killer for leads although it doesn't sing like a PRS. Plenty of sustain, but the pickups are voiced very different.

I don't know about that. I have heard some PRS recordings that sound like a herd of elephants.....they can get really heavy and thick sounding.

Sure, they can sound like that if EQ'd and recorded correctly but they really excel at singing leads. The Dragon pups are not hot enough for Metal IMO. The HFS and Vintage Bass that come on the Custom 24 fret PRSs (usually) seem to be hot enough, but they still have a looser feel than the DiMarzios in the BFR.

+1....I couldn't say it better myself!

They are both really nice, well built guitars. But as far as which one is better, that can be very subjective. Whats good for one may not be good for the other. I say go down to a guitar shop that carries both brands. Play them both extensively, unplugged & plugged in. Play them both through a variety of amps. Play them with some outrageous gain & distortion, play them clean, & in between. Better yet, take your amp with you, & play them through your amp. Play them loud, and play them at bedroom levels. Let your ears & your fingers tell you which one is better.

And maybe don't limit yourself to just those 2 particular models. Try other models as well. Try some less expensive ones. You never know, you might find something cheaper that absolutly owns both of those axes.

There is no right or wrong choice, just whatever works best for you

Well, you are in the enviable position of being forced to choose between two excellent instruments. I have a regular JP model (a JP7 in lava pearl with matching headstock, piezo, dot inlays and the original JP pickups) and it's one of the best guitars i've ever played, for both tone and playability. I've heard the BFRs are even more monstrous with their alder/mahogany/maple construction.

Ultimately, it's a decision you're going to have to make with your hands and your ears and your gut. (and preferably plugged into your own rig)

I have a feeling that the JP might be better suited toward metal, but plenty of metal guys use PRSes with the right pickups.

I think either way, you can't go wrong.

how about custom Carvins? Can they match up at all to a ebmm or prs?
I've got a custom Carvin. For the price, it's a nice guitar, but the stock electronics I'm not a big fan of. Stuck a DSonic in the bridge position, and that woke it up a little. Build quality is excellent, haven't played many PRS's or JP's, [I'm actually shopping for one of those right now too] but people tell me mine plays like a tank. I didn't try many guitars when I bought the Carvin in high school, so I don't know how playability stacks up.

Thanks to nice friends i've played both a Custom shop PRS and a EBMMBFR, and the EBMMBFR was the best guitar i've ever played. EVER. (I wish their was a drooling emoticon for me to put here)
