Hi There,

Yesterday I got a mesa 2:90 to go with my Triaxis- the interesting thing was that the guy I got it from had a triaxis too- i compared mine to his and his sounded loads better- less harsh etc. We tried his valves in my Triaxis ( a full set of JJ 12ax7s ) and it sorted out the problems i had been having... although mine still sounded a little fizzier- buy still great.

My question is, do you think that JJs are the best choice- they are seem really good value (ie cheap!)- what are other people using? and suggestions would be greatly appreciated , remembering that my triaxis seems especially prone to sounding fizzy and harsh.

cheers,

Paul

I put a full set of high gain 12ax7's in my triaxis from eurotubes.com and I thought they improved the tone quite a bit. The high gain option wasnt a huge difference but it made the distortion more versitile. For example, I had a really sweet Metallica sound on LD2 yellow with the gain on 7.5 and the lead drive at 6.5. After the re-tube I could get the same crunch and sustain at gain 7 and lead drive at 5.5. By lowering the gain I increased the response and clearity of individual notes but it still had a killer metal sound. Also, when I cranked everything up to about 9 I could get a super high gain EVH style tone. Oh, it really made the LD1 red channel sound as though someone fed a triple rec some gunpowder and whiskey.
