hey im thinking on picking one of these guys up but was just wondering what you guys thought about them. the particular guitar im looking at is a pre fender guitar (1999).

great guitars...just buy. no differences from pre or current fender. same people works at Jackson

I just aquired an USA Jackson sl1 through a trade. I am very immpressed. This one has an alder body, tiger striped maple, ebony fingerboard, seymor duncan pups,
it is a 2004 model. Plays fantastic, sounds just as good. I have only two issues with it.... It has a whammy bar, I hate whammy bars but it is a very good whammy bar ,original floyd rose, the intonation and action are perfect. I heard that you can buy some sort of locking mechinism for these ofr tremolos, they go in place of where the springs would be. Also..... I hate the location of the volume control.... Always in my way.
All on all..... It is a great guitar though. Sounds GREAT through my f-100 combo.

Floyds lend themselves very well to being blocked. Did it on some mid-eighties USA BC's and never went back. Plus the fine tuners on 'em are a great help.

Jacksons are Great Guitars !
i'd say go for it

I gotta agree. I have been impressed with virtually every Jackson I've tried. :)
I bought a new JDR94, one of the first imported (Japanese) Jacksons, when they first came out. Based on a Dinky Reverse, this has turned out to be one of my favorite guitars!
Excellent fretwork! I changed to better p/u's and installed an Original Floyd Rose (took a little routing but not bad).

I gig with it all the time. The Jackson necks are a little too thin for my taste, but it does make for a fast playing guitar and with the new p/u's (JB in bridge, PAF pro, neck) the tone is great. And it's lightweight and easy on the back after a 4 hour gig. :p

If you get it you will probably love it!
Good luck! :D

I'd have to disagree. THere has been some issues with the quality the last few years, not anything major and they are still some of the best guitars you can buy new, but get an older 1995 or something and then you have a true Jackson.

Some of the issues have been with the MOP used for the logo and some guys think the quality of the ebony boards are not at the level that they used to be.

I'm not saying the post fender guitars are junk, but there isn't anything like a 90's Jackson either. While it's the same guys doing the work in the shop, there has been questions about supply changes for raw products and what not, and it seems there has indeed been some internal changes.
