Got my MKV head yesterday!! I got into work a bit early today so I can leave ASAP and spend some time with it. It sits beautifully on top of my recto 2x12 vertical cab though :p.

Anyone notice a big ol' hole in the bottom of their head?? I wouldn't be able to name the part of the amp that's sticking out, but it's pretty big (over half of the width and length of the amp) and shiny. What's up with that? I'm guessing maybe part of the delay with the heads is that they weren't fitting in their shells properly? A bit weird, but I'll get over it :)

... NO I'M NOT, in fact I'll take a picture of it when I get home and try to post it (notice I said try... I seem to have issues loading pictures up on forums). When I picked the head up I noticed there was something metallic underneath.. but I just figured it was some sort of metal plate. I looked underneath this morning and the shell was cut open so that whatever this component is, comes through.

I honestly haven't had enough time to even look at the serial number, so I'll take a better look when I get home.

Hmmmmm.... well, if the reverb tank is what sits at the very bottom of the amp, then yes! It does look rather tanky now that I think about it, but aren't we talking about tubes for reverb? Anyway, like I mentioned earlier... I don't know what any of the components inside the amp are, so I'm not sure.

... if it IS an Explosive Space Modulator though, I will "Shirley" find out

Completely off subject, I love the handle on these heads. My rectifier had this rubber handle thing, but the MKV is nice and leathery feeling. Very fancy lookin' 8)

one half of V4 tube is your driver for the reverb. There should be some long springs in that shiny box (the reverb tank).

I love the handle too! I bought one of those handles from Mesa a while back for gts to put on my new headshell he is making for my Mark III.

hey Puerco, you handled it like a man-it might be a good time to brush up on tube amp basics,however-you can fry that shiny new amp , and possibly fry yourself in the process!!This is the right place to find all you need-always remember, be long on ears and short on mouth, otherwise there could be
welcome to the board

Thanks Lester, I've been visiting the forum for well over a year now, I just never signed up cuz I didn't want any problems here at work. But you're right, I have learned lots from you guys. I'm only glad I can provide useless information in return... like there being a hole under my amp .

Hopefully I won't go frying anything ever on any of my toys, but you've got me thinking now... if that is the reverb tank, is there any possible hazzard from it being exposed like that out of the bottom? Obviously, I should try to keep fluids away at all times, but would it be more subject to ground noise or anything weird like that because of it?

Nope. Only minor issue I have with the tank of my DC-10 sitting below the cabinet bottom is that my 2x12 cab handle hits the tank slightly but doesn't cause any harm. Just a little annoying.

"Anyone notice a big ol' hole in the bottom of their head??" Very amusing post. Keep em coming and welcome to the club.

Is this your first Mesa amp? I use to have the vertical 2x12 also. Great cab and it does look cool.

So I'm absolutely loving it -- been playing it for a few hours and loved it the minute I turned it on with my initial settings.

It totally blows my old Triaxis/2:90 rig out of the water and I'm now thoroughly happy I got rid of it. Cleans are better, leads are better and in terms of crunch its a much more aggressive sounding amp IMO. It has that "chunk" and "bite" that I love from the Mark series. It also just sounds more "organic" to my ears.

Amp sounds stellar through both my guitars (Tom Anderson Drop Top and Cobra S) and I couldn't be happier -- they both sound unique going through the V.

My favorite modes are Fat on Ch.1, Mark I on Ch.2 and IIC+ on Ch.3 -- I haven't really tweaked much out from those modes yet. Still getting a feel of how all the settings interact with each other.

Next step is incorporating my G-system -- I wanted to get solid sounds I loved before messing with any effects. I've actually had the G-sys laying around during my 6 month wait and haven't even had the chance to USE it yet!

I was very hesitant as everyone else after reading disappointing reviews and hearing sub-stellar clips but all that has just got thrown out the window. If you're on the fence, check it out for yourself.

For reference, I have owned a Triaxis/2:90 rig for around 8 years and a RKII head for a weekend and played/sampled many different other brands of amps.
