Is there any way I can turn my Mk III head into a combo?

Is there? I think it's either a medium or long head. How could I change It to a combo? i'm tired of lugging my 4x12 around.

FYI - I just ordered a headshell from Mesa to convert my Mark IV combo. Here are the prices they quoted me. I assume they would be similar for a Mark III.

Black/Black Standard Headshell - $249
Reverb Tank Installed - add $67
Fan Installed - add $39
SUS-4 Mounting - add $50
Standard Mouting HW - about $5
+shipping

4-6 Week lead time :(

There were three widebody combo shells on there last week. Or you can always get a brand new one direct from Mesa.
Your Mark III medium chassis will fit right in there along with all your hardware. You'll need a speaker of course.

Toobz-- just get a used 1x12 cab. A 1x12 widebody combo is still pretty heavy and hard to lug. A head and 1x12 won't weigh any less but it's easier to carry. Yeah, it might look a little weird with a long head on a 1x12 cab, but you're probably going to use your 4x12 for gigs anyway.

+1 Mark Combos are heavy f##kers. A mini-stack is the way to go - Mark Head + 1x12 open back +1x12 Thiele. A big sounding rig in bite-sized chunks. :D

if it's a short head (18-3/4" wide) i have a combo shell that i'd be happy to see have new home.
Swap all out of the head and into the combo shell (fan, reverb tank, etc) and voila you now have a combo.

if it's a medium/ long head....
maybe one of the new ones Mesa is making for the Mark V will work for a widebody MkIII. just call and ask them.

18 3/4 from outside of amp to outside? i have a III that is mounted in a shockmount case can the tabs be removed that attach it to the case and turned into a regular head would that work
i just measured and mines 17 across the front bottom

Very true +1

But he can get one of the wider 1x12's Mesa makes.
The 1x12 Express 23 at 23" wide would fit perfectly.

Sadly I don't think he can afford much of anything at this point.
Monsta-tone was selling a widebody combo shell for $125 and he couldn't afford to pull the trigger.
Maybe he's just exploring the possibilities.
That is excactly what i'm doing. Just looking for stuff to save for at Christmas/b-day.

You can save a buck or two by contacting gts on the forum. He made an excellent head shell and Thiele cabinet for my Mark III combo. I'm sure he can make the larger cabs as well.

I've also read about a new front ported cab Mesa has. If you're accustomed to a 4x12 like I am, you'll really appreciate the front ported or Thiele designs.
