Hi guys, I need your input on a really importatnt decision I have to make...

I've had my Triaxis for a long time now and I have enjoyed it A LOT, but in the last couple of years I've completely left behind my progmetal days, as a matter of fact I've just stoped playing metal :D

Now I'm playing a Tele and really digging classic tones and overdriven sounds. Also I stopped gigging and all my guitar playing is just for recording purposes so all the flexibility that the Triaxis gave me will not be needed any more. Considering this the idea of selling my TA is going through my mind but since I don't want to lose the Mark tone I thought about getting a Studio Pre. I've never tried one of those but for what i've read they are great.

Will it be a good Idea to get a Studio Pre?

Keep in mind that I'm not interested in super scooped metal tones, I just want to know I'll have a sweet Fusion tone available and take advantage of the more overdriven/rock tones possible with this amazing circuit.

Well all I can tell you is that the Studio Pre was my first piece of Boogie kit as I had it given to me :D as part of a guitar purchase deal, some guy was selling all his stuff so threw the Studio Pre in as a gift, god am I a lucky boy !!!

Cause everytime I switch it on the sounds are breathtaking. The clean sound is like glass and cuts through anything, the overdrive can be varied from subtle attack driven sound all the way through to searing lead to die for.

One thing though, it takes quite a long time to tame, the minute'est tweak of the drive or tone controls can lose a sweet spot, so you gotta be gentle with it, the controls are very active. The Spring reverb is great sounding but not very controllable, so it can be a bit overpowering.

I was so impressed with the sound I purchased a Mesa Stereo 295 all tube power amp to go with it, what a match made in heaven

I'm an old metal head too so it's hard to leave the crunch comfort zone but with tone like this who needs distortion !

Good luck !
