integrating a new band
hello,
I was contacted by a band in search of a lead guitarist a few weeks back. I did a few jams with them and learned to play most of their material.
The band will play a gig soon, and they chose to play by themselves. They basically said 'your playing is ok but you don't sound like you are really part of the band yet. We will do the gig without you, try a few jams together and see if it works'.
Its the first time I join a band that has been together for a while. I am looking for insight on how to approach the task of meshing with them rythmically and sonically.
Heres what I plan to do:
Record myself.
Practice with a metronome 'on the fourth beat' to gain tempo stability.
Lean to play without looking at my hands so I can look at them when we jam.
Sing the parts I play along to their clips.
Play along with the clips
Learn the other guys parts 'by heart'
Any other idea of what I could do?
thanks Jf
