It looks like the band I just joined is going to be doing a lot of shows. I don't consider it professional, though, since it's only for fun and we all have families and day jobs.

All the band members have a lot of good quality, high-end expensive gear. I'm actually getting some cheapo stage guitars just to avoid my expensive guitars getting damaged or stolen. But I gotta use my Mesa amp.

In a conversation recently with a promoter he suggested insurance. Anyone have experience/advice/suggestions, as either an amateur or pro, with instrument insurance?

Thanks

seems like it is more expensive for performer's type insurance over home owner coverage-obviously,if you are gigging in bars there is a much stronger chance that a drunk dude/chick will spill, spit,s#it,etc on your gear-i jacked up my homeowners coverage-sort of a blanket type deal that will reinburse if stolen-if damaged I am on my own-insurance for a professional musician will prob. cover damaged goods, but it might be $$$-ly-maybe there are some companies that are better than others-good luck

i have no personal knowledge or experience with these guys, just know they exist:

Most Homeowners Insurance Policies will either limit or refuse to pay for anything that is used in a business, trade or profession. Most ISO policies have a $500 limit off premises and $2500 on premises (your home). A business, trade or profession is defined as anything, including "part time" that involves making $$$$. So if your at a gig in a bar and you stuff is stolen your screwed as the adjuster is going to want to know were it was stolen from and it's pretty easy to put two and two together. Better purchase the musicians insurance through one of companies that specialize in insuring professional musicians. Ask you agent!!!!
