The last 3 Tung Sol 12ax7 tubes I had all became noisy within a few months so I'm going with JJs again. The JJ 12ax7 has always been much more reliable and quiet for me. Anyone else have trouble with the reliability of Tung Sol?

I have found this also with the Tung-Sol re-issues. The three I tried went noisy or microphonic.

Too bad though, for a current production tube they had a nice character I liked in V1, with plenty of gain.

I will agree, I always found the JJ's to be a strong reliable tube, just a little dark and sterile for my tastes.

The tung sol I put in my 5150II was in it for almost 4 years of daily playing and was still kicking strong when I sold the head. The 2 tung sols in my tube case are over a year old and get regular rotation in my amp when I want that certain tone from them.

The 2 TungSols in my Ace are almost a year old w/ no issues. Actually I have 4; 2 in V1 and V2 and the 2 EL34B's. No Problems w either flavor thus far and I put 2-3 hours a week on them.

HA! I order 3, one of them was good, the other microphonic, and the 3rd one DIED after a week!!!! Total CRAP!

I will stick with my JJ/E-H combo.

I just put 2 in my LSS a week ago. I have had a rehersal and gig so far with no trouble. They came from thetubestore, hope that makes a diffrence. I like them so I will keep my fingers crossed and mabey get more later.

I also got mine from the tube store!!!! i have them in V1 and V3 on my Mark V for over 3 months now with no issues and in V2,V3 on my roadster for over one year and a half with no issues either.......

Though I haven't tried vintage Tung-Sol tubes I think reissues sound great. My own experience has just been they're not reliable for as long as I would expect a preamp should be. Maybe my tubes just came from a bad batch. Now that I think about it, the last one I bought was from Doug's Tubes and he called me a couple of months afterwords asking if I could give him the number written on the side and also wanted to know how they where. At the time I wasn't having any trouble. Makes me want to go hummmmm. I might call him.

I just put a couple of vintage Tung Sols in my Mark IVb (V1 and V3) and am blown away at how much more musical it sounds. It lost the boxiness and is approaching the feel of a Mark II.

The vintage Tung sol 12ax7 is a very smooth and musical tube. Very rich sounding. Definitely worth having in your quiver along with some Raytheon blackplate, GE longplate, and Siemens shortplate, to name just a few awesome vintage 12ax7's...

I'm running a Raytheon long black plate in V4. I just tried a Sylvania long plate in V1...wow again!

I have been using a pair of Tung Sol 12ax7 in my Pro Junior for over a year. The tubes were in use about 5 hours a day and still going strong. I use this amp on the job. No problems what so ever and they sound great. I did get my tubes from thetubestore.com.
