Definitely more important to have a good amp. You can get a ton of decent guitars in the $400 to $700 range these days. Sure they're not like the JPMs in this thread, but they blow away the less costly guitars made back in the 80s.

The amp is essential. A great guitar through a shitty amp will sound like a cheap guitar in a cheap amp. A less expensive guitar through a great amp will sound better than it deserves, and when you're ready, you can just upgrade to a nicer guitar, or upgrade pickups, etc...

Actually, now that I think about it, that color is the Universe Annihilation color. Just one look at that guitar up close can tear the very fabric of the space time continuum.
