I need some advice...

Hi, I've been reader for awhile and I finally decided to join :wink:
so here goes the first post!!

I want to start recording using my Laptop, and I've been eyeballing some interfaces, but I don't have any experience in recording, so I don't know which one would work for me the best.
Basically, I want to be able to record my amp using a mic (mic suggestions are welcome as well), record vocals, and bass...(am I asking too much?)
My budget is $200 maybe $300....

hey, thanks... yeah, I have PC(winxp) and AMD processor. I'm totally getting a SM57... but there's so many USB/firewire recording devices out there :? I'm kind of lost. The Line 6 Toneports, Mbox2 mini and E-MU 0404 seem promising... should I just save up some more $$$ and buy something more "pro"????
