Honestly, this amp is the best of rectifier series that I have ever owned/played. I've owned the 2 chan rectos and the 3 chan rectos and have played even the road king amps, and I think this is the best recto model Mesa has ever made. I can get close to 55 great tones out of this amp. I am so pleased with it. What say yous guys?

I'll post some pics of my ROADSTER rig a bit later.

It's definitely the BEST recto I've ever played too, but I have never played a 2ch dual or triple.

It's the most versatile amp I've ever played, and it has all the tube warmth and dynamics I expect, instead of the sterile sounds of a modelling system

Ive had a 3 chan recto.played it alot. bought the roadster and im stuck. best recto so far.got a rect 2chan too.
the 2chan is tight and sounds very good but the roadster with a boost sounds as tight and even better metaltones.

I LOVE MY ROADSTER TOO

Yes! This is by far my favorite amp I have ever owned as well. I have no desire to buy another amp either - Roadster is perfect.

Could not agree more. The Roadster totally rocks.

I used to have a Triple Rec. That amp was classic, but the cleans on this one are much better, and with the built in reverb I basically don't need any outside effects. Tones on Ch 3 and 4 are also smoother.

I'm loving my Roadster too...I'd love to see some of the settings you guys are using though...I'm still tweaking quite a bit! :D

I absolutely love my Roadster. I've had two and three channel Dual Rectos, a Mark IV, a TriAxis/2:90 setup, a DC-5...and the Roadster smokes them all. I run mine loaded with El34's and boost it with a Maxon OD808 and couldn't be happier.

You boost it with a Maxon OD808? SWEET! I've been looking at getting one of those. Is it noisy? I find that my Roadster get's a bit too noisy when I boost it. Do you use a gate? I would love to hear some of the tones you are getting.

I boost mine with a Maxon OD808 too...wouldn't run the amp without it. I don't use a noise gate either....not noisy in my rig at all!

What channel do you use your boost on? What settings do you use on the amp and on your OD808?

I use channel 4 modern....bold w/diodes.

Gain: 1:00
Bass: 12:00
Mids: 12:00
Treble: 2:00
Presence: 3:00

The Maxon has gain off, tone at noon, and volume at 1:00.

Works like a charm for me. This is with EL-34s in the Roadster, and with my Mills cab loaded with 2 V30s and 2 G12K100s.

I played a roadster only once at GC and wasnt impressed at all. But after hearing everyone rave about them here I think Ill give them another try. Probably me just not being able to tweak it right since Im used to marks and the triaxis. Or as us mechanics say "loose nut behind the wheel"

I had the SAME exact experience with the Roadster. When I first tried it, I laughed that everyone was praising it so much. It was WAY too dark and muddy.

When my band started gigging more, etc., I wanted to get all my tones in one place. So, I went and spent two hours with the Roadster, and it blew me away.

Tips:

1. Don't be afraid to push the treble and presence HIGH....much higher than usual on a rectifier. The Roadster is significantly darker.
2. If you want a REALLY aggressive tone, the Roadster takes a boost better than any other amp I've played before.

I'm sold :D

Right on. I guess that Im rectifier illiterate being that Ive never owned one and after having a couple of other boogies I should have known to read the owners manual online before I left the house.

Yup...epic fail. :D

Yes, the Roadster needs tweaked... if you don't spend time with it, it won't impress you unless you have a similar taste to someone that was using it before you. I happened to walk into my GC and the salesguy actually knew his stuff (a rarity) took about 10mins to dial in for the first time and I walked out with it. Best amp decision I ever made.

I've been using a Boss NS-2 in my rig for a while. It's really handy for controlling feedback when you're playing clubs without a lot of stage room, and it's a HUGE help combating 60 cycle hum from stage lights and buildings with bad wiring. You do get a little extra noise when boosting with an OD...but with a gate on you can't tell at all. The OD makes such a huge difference I'd never play without one again.

These are really rough scratch tracks from when my band was dialing in guitar tones for our upcoming album. The playing isn't spot on because they were more of tone tests than anything, but you'll get the idea.

how much are you guys pushing presence on channel 4 modern?

I saw someone pushing presence at 3? with V30's wouldn't that sizzle your eardrums?

The Roadster definitely is darker than the 2 channel and 3 channel Dual Rec's I used to own back in the day. I agree with what was posted above that you can get away with higher treble/presence settings on the Roadster compared to other models.

The EQ knobs on the gain channels also seem to have a wider, more useful range to them in general.

I push it just over 3 o'clock on channel 4 modern.
