Just looking for advice/insight about the different preamp tube positions here. The tubes are GE long plates. I'm guessing V1 is probably a no brainer. Which position do you think would be the best for the other NOS? I'm guessing it'd probably be b/t V2 and V7? Thoughts?

Thanks.

IIRC, V2 is the second gain stage for channel two only. I have a Sylvania long plate 12ax7 in V1, that made a noticeable difference overall, and an RCA 12at7 in V2 that made the lower-gain region of channel two more useable. V1 is the obvious one, but experimenting is the best bet.

V1 has the most global effect. Changing V7 in my experience tends to change the feel more than the overall sound, though I have found some tubes make the sound thinner and others make it thicker. V2 has a serious effect on channel 2, but no effect on anything else. V3 matters, too.

Look at the back of the manual to see what the different tubes do.
