I know these are always rated for pretty high wattage but not sure about "Proline" and the 300W rating. Have an EV in that combo now that is very old and came out of a PA enclosure. Also have an EVM12L in a Thiele cab.

You tell us.
Plug 'em all in (one at a time, of course), play 'em 'til fingers bleed, review 'em for us.
Tell us what they sound like. Contrast, compare.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Would you expect the 300W speaker to sound "darker" than the Mesa 200W version of the EVM12L? Any other downside to using a speaker rated for way more watts than the amp actually produces? I sometimes use my Thiele 1x12 w/ a 30 watt amp and even a 15 watt head and it doesn't sound bad though sometimes I think there could be a better solution for the lower powered amps.
Thx

I have older and newer EV's, open and closed back cabinets, and a Mark lV combo. Two of the closed back cabinets are made by Scott Johnson at Boogafunk and I have a Boogie theile closed back, they sound different. I would say the Boogafunks sound smoother, less harsh when compared side by side. The EV in the Mark lV is a new "classic" 200 watt, it is very tight and articulate, probably because it is new. The mark lV came with a C90 that I took out because I found the mid-range honk unbearable. The EV was so much better I sold the C90. The other EV is in a open back Mark llB cabinet and that has a smoother sound than the "classic" but when compared to Boogafunk or theile seems a bit harsher/brighter. I also have various other speaker cabinets, a Marshall 1960A w/ G65 celestions that I bought new and abused it for years and it still sounds phenomenal, Marshall 1960B w/ G75's, Genz-Benz 4X12's with Eminence speakers and they much smoother in sound compared to the EV's. In my opinion, if I could only have one speaker I'd go with one of the Boogafunks with my Mark lll black dot head. I think any EV12L is better than most other speakers when using just one, although there are ones I haven't tried, yet.
