Hi guys
As we all know the serial at the back of a boogie amp or preamp etc can tell also the year of production.
Does anyone know how do we figure it on a 20/20 and 2:90 ?
Thanks.

I'd also like to know this.

I've bought a used TriAxis and 2:90 and they are both pretty old, serial number lower than 3000, and I'd like to know just HOW old they both are.

There are 3 versions of the triaxis all of which look identical.there is version 1.then there is version 2.0 which has midi continuous control in addition to midi program change.version 2.0 aslo has the rectifier ship which version 1 does not have.It is active in the lead red 1 mode of the triaxisonly.

Version 2.1 has a modificatio to this rectifier chip and this mod is called the fat mod.it changes the gain settings adn EQ curve of the rectifier sound.

You can tell right away wha versio you have by checking the seial numbers.Serial numbers 0 to 1699 are all version 1.Numbers 1700 to 5200 are version 2.Numbers 5201 to present are version 2.1

i stole this from jem site.....google is your friend... :D

i have two versions the 2.0 and the 2.1.....the 2.0 is a better sounding lead 1 red sound...but i never really use it any way...i really just use the lead two yellow. so it doesnt matter what version i have.but having the version 2.0 means you have midi continuous control and i do use that...you will see that when you turn it on it will light up 2.0 across the front.

Thanks for your post, but you failed to answer the question that the OP and I asked. Google is your friend, if you google the right thing.

I still can't pin a year on my TriAxis or 2:90. I really want to know how old my 2:90 because I think the guy that sold it to me still has the original tubes (my 2:90 is 2xxx), so in that case the tubes would be ALARMNINGLY old. He said the 6L6s were replace (I doubt it), and I'm probably left with fuses and 3 12AX7s/ECC83s with 10+ years on them.

C'mon, dating a device shouldn't be TOO much of a secret? I know the week of production of my JVM...

There's a quote in this thread that has some year/ serial number info for triaxis.
If I was in your shoes the very first thing I would do is buy a new set of tubes for the entire rig. The existing set can go to backup status if you deem them worthy for backup after AB comparison.
If your using a tube rig you would be wise to have those replacements on hand so you got your bases covered.

I guess that would date my TriAxis to about '94... Still not an accurate year.

Yeah, my gut says "retube it" too. But I don't have 350€+ for 8 6L6s and 3+5 12AX7s right now, and these work fine for now. Tonally there's nothing wrong. The 2:90 was retubed 2, 3 years ago but the tubes have very, VERY little playing time on them, and like I said, they work fine. The TriAxis was retubed about a month ago with Sovtek 12AX7WA (which is the same tube that Mesa rebrands, if I'm not mistaken).
