Not sure where to post this but Guitars seemed as good as any. Anyway, I need some advice.

I'm hearing some light to moderate buzzing from my 69' LP w/small humbuckers while in the "gain and crunch" channels on my Ace. It's definitely related to the recessed ceiling lighting cans in the room.

1. The lights are on a dimmer switch and the buzz goes away when I turn off the lights.
2. The buzz goes away when I turn the volume pot(s) down on my guitar

I'm using Mogami and Monster cables but clearly the above points to the dimmer system getting into the guitar circuitry before the volume pots. Am I on track here?

It's very likely but I don't know 100% for sure that the wall plug for the amp is on the same circuit as the overhead lights.

It's also likely that the nearly 40 year old circuitry in my LP is not as shielded as it could be or that something inside is not right.

The buzz is not overwhelming, just there in the quiet moments. Would a Furman power conditioner help isolate the amp? Maybe some electronics work or torroids added to the guitar circuitry? Or, maybe the Noise Gate on the G-Major when I get it hooked up will suck it out?

Replacing the original pickups and/or volume pots on my vintage guitar is not really an option that I'd want to explore since it seems related as much to the room lights as it does the guitar.

Questions, comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Dimmers are notorious causes of buzz. Your noise gate will help. For a power conditioner to work it's going to need a separate transformer, not just be a glorified power strip which many lower end power conditioners are.

Most Furmans will condition the power, not just act as a power strip. That would get rid of the hum. I would recommend at least getting a PL Plus, since it has a voltage indicator on the front.

Actually, To get a furman that actually "conditions" the power you have to spend about 3 bills and up. If it doesn't have a transformer built in it's an expensive power strip just like the one's you get from Home Depot.
