I found out today at guitarcenter that I can use the CS-3 compressor as a boost pedal too as I was messing around with it.
I didnt get to try it on a Single Rect in store but that's what return and exchange policies are for ;)

I'll post more info after I buy it this friday and let you guys know how it went. If this fails, Im getting the EQ pedal for sure

I have a cs3 and I find it adds a ton of hiss if you try to boost with it at all. I gaurantee you wont be happy with it as a boost

The trick with any compressor is to use it first in your signal path, otherwise it won't react correctly to dynamic changes and usually gives a really squashed sound.

I don't know if that'll help with the CS3 or not...

Well, I got the CS-3 and it accomplished what I wanted. It gave a boost and enough compression for super long sustaining notes. The only problem is that, it shaped the tone. Something about the tone I just couldnt get right with it.

So I seen a GREAT deal on yngwies signature overdrive pedal, the yjm308 for 30$. Everyone suggested a overdrive pedal so I went ahead and ordered it. If anyone has that screaming lead tone, its Yngwie, and if this pedal has his name on it, then it must be EQ'd sepcifically for that screaming tone.

It arrived today and I messed around with it and am COMPLETELY impressed and satisfied. The CS-3 was good, but it was messing with my tone in a negative way. The YJM308 sounds so badass and pissed off going through my recto.

I couldn't stand the background hum with the compressor so I returned it. This 30$ overdrive pedal is AMAZING, it tightens up the bass and my riffs sound HUGE!!!! and my leads sound reallll nice and clear. I used to have the gain maxed on my recto just so I could get enough saturation-and even then, it lacked compression and was fizzy as hell! But this pedal does everything SO GOOD with the recto.

I never played with a tubescreamer or Maxon overdrive, and lack the funds to get such pedals. I dont know how this YJM stands against those two but for 30$ its hard to say no.

My mouth actually opened wide open when I first struck the low E powerchord. Total heavy metal bliss for me :D

and If anyones wondering, I keep the gain really low and the volume maxed out. I'll have to post a vid once I get my girlfriends camera

Well, the CS-3 is arguably the worst compressor on the market, so it's not entirely surprising you were dissatisfied with it.

Still, I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

I disagree respectfully. The CS-3 isnt bad all IMO. For a really squishy type of comp. Its not the "cant tell if its on" type of comp. Add the Monte Allums opto plus mod to it and its a really good comp.
