I'm a big fan of Ruby EL34BSTR's and have 2 different matched pair laying around.

I typically consult Laura at ValveQueen and she is advising against using the particular ones that I have which are rated on their labels as follows

Tube 1 - PC: 49 Nr: 008 TC: 5900
Tube 2 - PC: 49 Nr: 421 TC: 5900
Tube 3 - PC: 49 Nr: 445 TC: 5100
Tube 4 - PC: 49 Nr: 141 TC: 5100

From what I've gathered, the amp wants a matched pair in the center 2 sockets and another matched pair in the outer 2 sockets.

She told me that those are hot tubes and advised against using them in the amp.

I trust her but was wondering if any of you guys had experienced any issues with EL34's in general or if you agree that it would not be wise to try those particular pairs in my amp?

She said she would only use low 30's PC rating BSTR's.

Thoughts?

yeah I totally trust her. I know exactly nothing about tubes except you put em in the amp, witchcraft happens and you get awesome sounds.

So it is a general rule of thumb with the V that it needs colder tubes because the mesa is biased hotter than usual?
