Actually I heard that while Smith was getting his amp business going he rebuilt Mercedes-Benz engines and in order for Mercedes-Benz to send him parts he had to pick an important sounding name. It seemed "Boogie" wasnt a good sounding engine shop name haha

also interesting that Mercedes-Benz and Mesa Boogie are both MB

also also interesteding there are amps (probably unintetionally) named after cars:

Nomad
Chevy Nomad

F-100
Ford F-100

F-50
Ferrari F-50

Formula
Pontiac Firebird Formula

Mark IV
Lincoln Mark IV

DC-2
Honda Integra (chassis code is DC-2)

Anybody ever considered how "boogie" should be pronounced?

I always thought "moog" was pronounced moow-g, but after watching videos featuring moog masterminds that were pronouncing it moh-g, like moh-ger-foh-ger, I was shocked.

Though it is highly unlikely, maybe the same logic(or lack thereof) applies here.

Same thing with Neumann mics. A lot of people pronounce it New-man when it is actually Noi-mann (like "coin" or "noise"). Same thing with Neutrik as well.
