Hopefully this is the right place to ask this; I apologize if it isn't.

I've never shipped heavy items before. How should I calculate what to charge for shipping? Do I take the initial payment, ship the item, then charge for shipping?

Both fedex and ups have online shipping calculators. All you need are the dimensions and weight of the item/box, and the zip code where you are shipping to, and they will tell you the cost. You also have to add the cost of insurance. It used to be $1 per $100 of value after the first $100. So, a $1,000 item would cost $9 to insure. I don't know if that is still the right amount. Everything has gone up.....
