One of my most favorite tones and one I consider to be a "holy grail" tone would be combining a high gain Marshall JCM800 tone with a high gain Mesa/Boogie Recto tone. I've also come close to a nice tone by using the V-Twin in front of a JCM800-like tone. Some bands with two guitarists will give one to each. I think Adam Jones of Tool did this in the past. The Recto takes care of the low end and the Marshall adds to the high end, nicely complimenting each other. Still looking for a single amp that can pull this tone off. I doubt it will, but I'm looking at a Roadster next.

Anyone have rigs like this and can offer some clips of this awesome tone? Given different configurations will give different results, but you get the idea.

It does sound great.....as my second amp, to compliment my recto, I'm looking at either a Mark IV or a Marshall JCM800 in the future!

or a stiletto to compliment the recto. I'm pretty sure they even mentioned that they had that in mind when designing it.

i love the sound of the jcm 800...ive been looking to buy one, but idk what it means when it says like jcm800 2203? and jcm800 2205? i have no clue what that stands for or if it makes a difference. also, how big of a difference does the year manufactured maked for the jcm800? and are there any years said to be better then others?

Time to state the obvious..

You're better off asking such questions at a Marshall focused forum. :D

I used a very similar set up in the studio for this song. We used a JCM 900 50 watt hi gain dual reverb and a 2 channel dual rec. both through old *** marshall cabs. They were so haggard that I couldn't tell what model or anything they were. You can listen to it here.

We recorded it at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, CO. The engineer we use when we go there loves using this set up!!

Nice clip! Thanks! You can really hear the combination in certain rhythm sections.

Anyone else? Definitely one of the most hard rocking rhythm tones of the century. Both combined is a little too dirty for lead work for me. I'd prefer a single recto or marshall tone for that I'd think.
